Previously 13% abv, 11% abv from 2014->. Black Albert was used in a new barrel aging project. More than a year ago, Carlo was able to get his hands on a stock of Four Roses Bourbon barrels, and we happily filled them up with Batch „0". This unique creation was originally to be named 4 Black Roses in honour of its heritage, but our friends in Kentucky strongly advised us not to do so! What to do? As the disowned offspring of Black Albert, the name Cuvée Delphine imposed itself. Savouring the Belgian irony, we are most honoured to have artwork by Delphine Boël shining on this label. You will not find this ale all over the globe. There is no export program, but we will try to provide stock through our web shop and some specialty beer pubs.

Near black opaque body with a thin, beige, oily collar. Aromas of dark fruit, chocolate, roast, chocolate covered raisins. Medium too thick body, palate coating. Delicious flavor, bourbon character is present but not overbearing, blending in to the beer harmoniously. Outstanding.

100ste rating, Struise Cuvée Delphine Bottled 09/2014. Uitgeschonken in origineel Struise bierglas.

Ordered from Hopleaf. Opaque brown-black with thin dark tan fizzy head. Smells of coffee, dark fruit, plum, liquorice, grass jelly. Taste is dark fruit, booze, deep herbal bitterness, sharp Sweet without being cloying and raisiny/sharp without being overly so. Body is smooth, sharp, acidic, bitter. Usually barrel-aged beers are interesting but too much for me - this one is big without being undrinkable.

Bottle (2012 vintage) from Craftissimo at home. Thick black pour with growing silky dark brown-tan head. Aroma is interesting - banana, toffee, some coffee, raisin, marshmallow/vanilla. Lots going on. Taste is very very big - follows aroma with vanilla, raisin, bitter coffee but rounded out, booze. Really really rich but in a delicious way - the seeming evening out of the flavors by the barrel aging seems more evident and pleasant than in most other barrel aged beers. Great

Bottle, I think from Bier Tempel. Dark black, billowing dark brown head. Of course, looks the part. I think the barrel ageing has softened some of the recurring bitterness I loved in the Black Albert, this has a sweeter rounded finish but to be honest I preferred the ’basic’ version. Nitpicking really, it’s still a splendid full flavoured imperial stout but for me not the depth of flavour to get a very very high rating. Lakshmi suggested that this would be a good thing to try to brew at home...hmm well we’ll see how that one goes!!

Une bière aux allures de goudron, un nez sur le caramel brulé, le chocolat, le malt, les pruneaux, sucre candy.

Bottle courtesy of bytemesis, thanks Mike! Pour black with a 2 finger mocha head. Beautiful. Nice spotty lacing that clings to the glass and nice legs too. Aromas of chocolate. roasted nut, dark fruit - plum/cherry, oak and bourbon. Taste follows the nose with nice velvety chocolate, roasted notes, anise, plum/cherry notes, vanilla, oak and then bourbon,. Very nicely balanced and the alcohol was very well hidden for the ABV. Nice sipper!

Bottle 2012. Nose is powerful and subtle. Whiskey which is not overpowering, vanilla, cola, licorice, hint of smokey treacle, brown sugar. Taste is sweet, whiskey, vanilla, figs, Christmas pudding, dark fruit, cherry, cream, brown sugar, treacle, nuts,a little chocolate in the finish. There is jsut enough hop to stop it being cloying. Mouthfeel is rich. A magnificent beer, which is maybe just a touch too sweet.
