COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Previously 13% abv, 11% abv from 2014->. Black Albert was used in a new barrel aging project. More than a year ago, Carlo was able to get his hands on a stock of Four Roses Bourbon barrels, and we happily filled them up with Batch „0". This unique creation was originally to be named 4 Black Roses in honour of its heritage, but our friends in Kentucky strongly advised us not to do so! What to do? As the disowned offspring of Black Albert, the name Cuvée Delphine imposed itself. Savouring the Belgian irony, we are most honoured to have artwork by Delphine Boël shining on this label. You will not find this ale all over the globe. There is no export program, but we will try to provide stock through our web shop and some specialty beer pubs.

Pours a tuilé black (brown rim) with a quickly dissipating milk chocolate-like head. Aroma is mostly alcohol with a well-hidden roastiness. Taste is sweet with not much bitterness and a little burn. Flavors are mostly burnt grains and alcohol. Palate is nice and creamy with ample carbonation. This is good beer, bro.

Black, brown lacing foam head. Coffee aroma, some bourbon aroma. Great taste, beer that respects to be sipped which I did. Thanks Douberd for sharing this. (Velp 201503)

Aroma is roasted/dark malts, fruit/dark fruit/vinous and a hint of sweetness. The flavor is dark/roasted malts, dark fruit/vinous, fruit/berries and a big sour/acidic/mildly alcoholic finish.

Bottle, pours black with a brown/grey head. Dark chocolate, vanilla, wood, coffee, bit of ash. The bourbon is defintely there, but not overpowering. Moderate sweet and bitter, thick oily to creamy texture, initially fizzy carbonation and that settles, long lingering lightly boozy finish. Well balanced, lovely, lovely beer.

Ik drink een vintage 2012. Erg donker bier vult de hele mond met smaak! Lekkere koffie en eik toetsen.

2015/03/24 - Pours jet black, with a thick, frothy, tan head that slowly reduces and leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, licorice, toffee and bourbon with hints of vanilla and wood. Taste is sweet chocolate and toffee up front, followed by licorice and coffee and finishing with wood, vanilla and sweet bourbon. Mouthfeel is thick and oily with biting carbonation and a finish that is both sweet and mildly bitter as well as boozy and warming. Really good stuff. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Vintage 2012 bottle. Good body (something i often miss a little in a stout, but not here! ). Coffee and a little bourbon in the nose. Starts sweet, chocolaty, to end with the slight biterness of coffee and a little bourbon in the aftertaste. Simply great.

bottle from Abbot’s Ale House in Cork. pours jet black just like soy sauce with a whiff of bourbon. Whisky notes with dark muscovado sugar, liquorice and vanilla and a hint of coffee. You feel the bitterness in the finish and a little slap in the face alcohol heat but overall really nice and smooth and it goes really well with a strong cheese. Excellent beer, its definitely on my favourites list.

(On tap @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Mar 20 2015) Pours black with a towering pale brown head of fine fioam and lots of lace. Aroma of burnt sugar, muscovado, liquorice, soy, charred wood and ash, dates and maybe prunes, a bit of coffee, bourbon and vanilla present but not overpowering. Palate is a bit different with lots of sweetness at first, milk chocolate and cold coffee with cream, some of that liquorice, more muscovado, a bit of light oxidation in the middle, the dried date character doesn’t really build until closer to the finish. The bourbon and vanilla character is felt there a little too. Finish shows a lot of ashy roast bitterness. A little alcohol heat too, coffee grinds in the aftertaste. Medium body with medium high carb. Fruity and quite "Belgian" end of the imperial stout continuum with oxidation and ashy roast dominating over chocolate, and the bourbon barrel is actually quite subtle and smooth. Not the richest, but really smooth and sippable. Nice stuff!

Pitch black with brown head. Aroma is alot of dried fruits, chocolate and vanilla. Taste is Chocolate, coffee, vanilla with a obvious sweetness. With higher temperature there is a little bit of roasted/burnt taste coming forward. Overall, the beer needs alot of aeration before the quite forward alcohol taste goes away. Bourbon notes also gets more obvious with temperature. It’s a really great beer - but the question is if Black Albert isn’t a little better?
