Previously 13% abv, 11% abv from 2014->. Black Albert was used in a new barrel aging project. More than a year ago, Carlo was able to get his hands on a stock of Four Roses Bourbon barrels, and we happily filled them up with Batch „0". This unique creation was originally to be named 4 Black Roses in honour of its heritage, but our friends in Kentucky strongly advised us not to do so! What to do? As the disowned offspring of Black Albert, the name Cuvée Delphine imposed itself. Savouring the Belgian irony, we are most honoured to have artwork by Delphine Boël shining on this label. You will not find this ale all over the globe. There is no export program, but we will try to provide stock through our web shop and some specialty beer pubs.

Pours very similar to Black Albert - beautiful pitch black, lots of carbonation, big dark brown frothy head. Aromas of bourbon, leather, vegemite, chocolate, espresso, vanilla. The taste is magnificent. Bourbon notes, charred meat, chocolate, vanilla, cream, espresso. It’s quite sweet at first and then dries out nicely before finishing with a welcome bitterness and tartness from the barrel ageing. Velvet smooth and super creamy in the mouth. A really fantastic beer worthy of the hype.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, molasses, anise, mild bourbon, vanilla, and oak. It pours a dark dark brown with no transparency and a large tan head that eventually fades to a thin film outlined by a thick ring. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate and molasses. There is some definite roasted malt in the middle. The finish has more molasses, light coconut/vanilla, mild bourbon, oak, and black licorice. It’s medium-full bodied with mild carbonation and a slightly oily mouthfeel.

Oily substance, stable head, gentle carbo, nice. A: Bock, hint of bourbon, vanilla, wood, hint if cherry, clove, rye, faint hairspray hint. Serious stuff. T: perfect creamy, oily mouthfeel. Sweet start, vanilla, some sweetness from the bourbon, hint if spices. Slightly peppery bitter development. Deep. Aftertaste reveals a smokey flavor, wood notes, stout. Great stuff.

11.2oz bottle of 2012 release. Pours a thick black color with a lot of head. Rich flavor of the skunky hops. Mellow bourbon that balances so well with the malt.

Very dark brown with tiny brown head. Aroma chocolate, dark malts, coffee. Full body, alcohol is there but blends in. The flavor is fairly sweet but not sticky. Mocha, toasty malt, a general fruitiness in the background, Complex and port-like.

Old rating rerated 14.11.2015, tap @ Mikkeller Bar:
Small light brown creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry, dark malts, oak, dark sugar, weeds, minerals, licorice, bark, grass, alcohol, burnt coffee. Taste is slightly sour-ish boozy, weeds, minerals, oak, grass, dark malts, alcohol, sour coffee, bark, dark sugar, licorice. Longlasting bitterness, slightly dry and harsh mouthfeel. As fresh, not my cup of tea. Will be rerated at some point with a well aged bottle...

Tap@Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen - black pour with almost no head. Aroma and taste is complex malty, streaks of roasted followed by sweet malts, nice big chocolate, burnt notes, char, oily mouthfeel, lovely stuff. ---Sent via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Vintage 2012. Schenkt dik zwart in met een bruinige kraag. Aroma van stroop, koffie, likeurig, zoet, beetje rook, vaag peper.Smaakt idem. Dikke volle smaak, crêmig. Zoet, misschien wel iets té zoet. Weinig koolzuur. Beetje branderige afdronk.

Vintage 2012 : pour is murky brown - with a modest khaki head into this glass - light lacing presence as well. It retains on the average side of things, I suppose. The nose is oak, char, molasses notes- chocolate morsels are here - and finally - dark fruit - like fig reveals itself. Quite nice, actually - it took a moment to get there. The flavor profile is bittersweet initial - more chocolate, toffee - and more molasses - but it’s bittering and sharp on the tongue - char, dark fruits, barrel presence, of course - with some booze that presents itself - I don’t get strong bourbon here - it’s more of an oak barrel note with booze in the general sense, lacking in clear vanilla notes but heavy in general sweet. It fades to a drying, earthy note with a touch of bread.

Pours dark with medium dark, brown head, which diminishes quite quickly. Strong oak aroma, burboun, slight coffee notes. Taste is very full, extremely well balanced and very much pleasant. Body is excellent. The taste is firstly very heavy, almost sweet, no carbonation, then it quickly turns in to a bourboun feel, finished with a very sligh hoppy aftertaste, which is overwhelmed by the bourboun after swallowing. Excellent beer!
