This request edition ale is the crafted alchemy of a party of some of Europe’s finest brewers, Mikkel Bjergsø and Kristian Keller of Mikkeller (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Urbain Coutteau, Carlo Grootaert, Phil Driessens, and Peter Braem of De Struise Brouwers (Woesten-Vleteren, Belgium).
Both breweries have attracted considerable international attention for their artful interpretations of traditional ale styles enlived by a rich sense of invention. And both are also very highly esteemed by the RateBeer.com international community of beer tasters. We hope you enjoy this unique little treasure.

Struise-Mikkeller is as we said in the past "Best of two worlds". We delivered an IPA with 130 IBU (Batch I), 150 IBU (Batch II), 163 IBU (Batch III), but a bitterness hidden the Struise way, counter balanced by maltyness, alcohol and rest sugars.

Pours a hazy medium brown with off white head. Medium body. Taste is bitter yet balanced with malts and fruit.

Strongly bitter with a dry aftertaste. Hazy dark orange, almost brown. Thick white head with a medium body. Taste dominated by hops, residual sweetness lingers.

Bottle to celebrate my 1000th beer with my business partner, Elliot. Awesome ha. Sexy pour. Bright, gold - orange with a dense, sticky white head leaving superb lacing. Very big and ripe tropical fruits - passionfruit, mango, melon, citrus. A touch of pepper with an underlying sweetness from the candi sugar. Not too in your face, works very well. Complexity at its best when it comes to Struise. Over-ripe fruits surround the taste with the same back end sweetness from the candi sugar. Not overly sweet which I like. Lengthy bitter finish, medium mouth feel. Great beer, fantastically made, cheers

I think I got a bad one............Lot A 3 09. I know this size beer would change considerably over time and unfortunately I just picked this beer up a couple weeks ago. Pours very cloudy deep amber, aroma is slightly raisin with a metallic ting. Tastes of copious hopping with lots of malt to support, but I think I got to this beer too late as it has an enourmous alcohol presence and I can feel it going down. I can only imagine this beer served fresh and hope someday to enjoy one.

Bottle. Batch III. Deep reddish brown with a pleasingly big eggshell white head. The aroma’s of apple, citrus fruits, pepper, spun sugar. The taste is quite bitter, but nicely balanced, plenty of malt flavors for balance. The carbonation is active, but not overwhelming, the finish is long. Overall, very good work.

dark amber pour, almost a red or brown. Two finger foamy off white head and a sweet citrus/lemon aroma. The candi sugar gives the beer an underlying sweetness, which becomes more pronounced as the beer warms, hops throughout but nothing overpowering, and they take a real back seat to the candy sugar as the beer warms. All around an interesting brew.

Pours hazy orange with off white head plus some yeast from the bottle. Smell is citrusy with a large hop profile. The taste is smooth and full with citrus and some floral hops. There is a solid grainy back that I really enjoy. Lingering grapefruit slight sweet bitter.
