3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle, from The Old School, in the confines of J98 LLY split with ’team backseat’ aka Leighton and Bruce - they were still awake as we motored on towards the French border!
Clear pale golden with a thin white head that retains well.
Nose carries pale malts, light grass, wheat, yeast.
Taste comrises light sugars, grass, bready dough, orange peel, yeast.
Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry in the finish.
A simple and drinkable offering from Struise, eminently drinkable but a bit of a come down from all the 10% goodies we’d just had at the Old School!

bottle from beer planet.
very strong gusher, spilled quite a lot of beer in the sink (yep-opened it in the sink to begin with lol). cloudy yellow, smooth white head. quite dry, quite yeasty aroma, dusty, faint flowery and fruity notes too. Nice bitter-malty flavor, with some sweet notes, but also a yeasy spicy dryness to it. Perhaps a little bit too sweet. not at all like your ordinary blonde, much more yeast and caramelly malts in the flavor.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
GUSHER! but poured a hazy and pretty blond with a fairly thin head that stuck around. Smelled rustic, some bitter, grassy, citrus and spice notes. Dry and well hopped for a "blond" but I like it. When it comes to the mouth-feel and Drinkability this beer took off for me. So smooth and easy, would be great on a nice sunny day.

330ml bottle. Cloudy deep golden colour with good firm lacing white head. Sweet fruity aroma, a touch of strawberry, hay. Grainy taste with an undefinable fresh sourish note, husky remnants due to unfiltration.

Moeder Lambik Blond, June 2010: 33cl Brown bottle, it was supposed to be poured slowly into a ’Duvel’ glass, but the beer gushed out onto the table before I could pick up the glass, so very lively stuff!
This of course allowed all the sediment to rise up too, and enter my glass, none was visible, but the beer had a hazy look to it.
Colour was light amber/old gold, on top a huge foaming snow white head.
The smell was yeasty and very ’Belgian’, semi-sour citrus aromas mixed in with sweet peas?
The flavours appeared a little subdued to me, crisp and refreshing, but lacking interest and bite. It was also a bit ’fizzy’, best before date was 05-2011, so it wasn’t a baby when I opened it. In fact it has sat, boxed, in my garage for over a year before being brought out into the light and cooled for this tasting.
Slighty disappointing to be honest, maybe I’m missing the point here, but de Struise have such a good following and respected name, this however doesn’t live up to the billing!
