Struise-Mikkeller is as we said in the past "Best of two worlds". We delivered an IPA with 130 IBU (Batch I), 150 IBU (Batch II), 163 IBU (Batch III), 216 IBU (Batch IV), but a bitterness hidden the Struise way, counter balanced by maltyness, alcohol and rest sugars.

On tap @ La Capsule (Lille). Hazy/murky copper with à small white head and good lacing. Aroma is of malt, resinous hops, caramel, grapefruit fruit and hints of soap. Taste is moderately sweet and bitter with malt, caramel, resinous presence, grapefruit and, again, soapy notes. Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Oily mouthfeel. Sticky bitter finish. Average DIPA at best. Too malty.

Shared at RBNG. I’m past the point of wiriting about this. It’s quite good for a 2009 IIPA.

Maroon crimson label. light head. Candy corns, caramel and very malty backbone. Certainly a shell of what it once was. i get a lot of pine, citrus, tangerine and a hint of cheese and caramel malts. Probably was amazing. Nice to try it now.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Hazy, reddy, amber. Thin, lasting, cream coloured head. Thick, sweet, tinned mandarin. Some buttery toast. Grapefruit. Melted brown sugar. A little yeast fustiness helps prevent a sugar overload. Taste is thick sweetness, then the bitterness kicks in. Full bodied. Long, bitter finish. Full on.

Bottle - Bought Aug 2010, BBE date Apr 2015; Drank May 2013 - Deep Amber in colour. Well sedimented. Good carbonation. Very Hoppy; grassy and piney resinous hops. Very Fruity; citrus grapefruit, bitter orange, hint of cherries. Spices (peppery) and herbs. Yeasty. Malty backbone; sweet malts, caramel, toffee, candy sugars. Good hop/fruit/spice/malt balance. Bitter hoppy fruity and spicy over sweet malts, leading to a bitter dry hoppy finish. Lovely. Enjoyed this a lot. Terrific Imperial IPA!
