4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: APR 13, 2013 Bottle, 9.0%. Flowery hop aroma, a little elderflower and a good roughness. Sparkling, hazy copper colour, getting chunky at the bottom. Brilliant tan head, very big, creamy, stable. The flavour starts off sweet. Turns hoppy with flowery and bitter notes. Yeasty finish. Good alcohol level and smooth mouthfeel. Quite late cleansing bitterness.
Bottle, 9%. I think this has been in my cellar for five years. Fruity aroma, slightly acidic, some oxidised notes, but still good. Dark red amber colour with some small bits of yeats floating around. Small stable creamy cream-coloured head. The flavour is quite malty, slightly bretty. Good strong and clean bitterness. Creamy finish with some flowery hops still left. Still good. 8 3 8 3 19

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottled. Quite murkey and orange coloured with a rather large off-white head. Somewhat strange - notes of pines, soap, spices, peach, yeast, banana, cloves and flowers. Quite confusing.

Pours an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of caramel malts, citrus and pine hops, candied sugar, and some alcohol. Light on the palate with caramel malts up front. Finishes strong with citrus and floral hops, grass tones, and some alcohol warming.

11.2oz bottle. Poured a medium to deeper and hazy orangish color with huge sized off white head. Poured cloudier as I reached the bottom with some larger floaters. Aromas of citrus / oranges, fruity, some pine, and floral hoppiness. Tastes of citrus, melons, fruity, caramel, and lightly spicy. Light to medium alcohol in the finish.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Orange/copper with a massive, dense off white head. Very nice to look at. There’s a distinct aroma of belgian yeast. Earthly notes along with spices, citrus and a touch of sweet fruit makes up for a balanced aroma reminding me more of a tripel than a double IPA. The touch of tripel stays on in flavour, but is overpowered by the IPA features: a sweet malty base with layers of hoppiness on top. Caramel and brown sugar makes up the sweetness in this beer, while grape is the dominating hop impression. Still has that special belgian touch, that makes this beer a complex and interesting brew. I could see myself drinking this one often.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
11.2oz botttle. Pours orange with a huge rocky white head with great lacing. Upon smelling this certainly does not remind one of a Double IPA. Soft Belgian yeast, light citrus, spicy, some fruitiness in a Golden ale/Tripel type of way. Cantaloupe, a little pepper, estery. There is definitely hops in the aroma but not near what you’d expect in the style. Taste is fruity, spicy and estery at first with a substantial citrus hop kick in the middle and finish. Very citrusy and dry finish with the hoppiness taking on an almost leafy quality. If the aroma didn’t show intense hoppiness the flavor certainly makes up for it. Bitterness is smooth and very easy on the palate. Certainly an interesting take on the style. A good combination of flavors meld together for a successful and unique beer.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Hazy off-copper pour, big white head. Aroma is very freshcitrus, grapefruit, melon, grassy, floral, and a touch of sweetness. Flavor is interesting, grapefruit, citrus, melon, then it leads to the candi sugars, sweet and spicy then back to a grapefruit rind finish. Lots of fresh leaf hops and candi sugars with a distinctive belgian yeast that delivers phenols and spices like in a triple. Malts give some caramel sweetness and bready flavors, medium bodied but with a very creamy mouthfeel and lots of lively carbonation. Really is an interesting brew and makes it hard to describe, very complex. Mainly it’s grapefruit and citrus with candi sugars, what a wild concept. Only thing is I wish the hops played more a role flavorwise it’s really dominated by the spice and sugars. Thank you Mikkeller and Struise for this RateBeer creation.

(Bottle) Pours a lightly cloudy orange body with a dense creamy off-white head. A light aroma of orange peel, grapefruit, spruce, and some floral/perfume notes. Flavor of grapefruit, orange, coriander, Belgian yeast, and floral/earthy hops with a mild bitterness.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured a very nice cloudy yellow with a creamy white head that stuck around forever. A little bit of the hop presence noticed in the nose , but mostly the spices and belgian yeast are what I picked up on. The flavor is much of the same but some of the sweet candied sugars show up as well. The taste is nowhere near the 130 ibu level of bitterness and double ipa that I was hoping for...but it was still a good brew for a belgian inspired double ipa, and thank you so much for mikkeller and struise for making this brew for us at ratebeer. Overall not the ipa I was hoping for but still an enjoyable brew with not a bit of alcohol present.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from River’s Bend. Pours a hazy dark golden/light amber color with a large frothy beige head that lasts. The aroma is citrus and pine, sweet, spicy, and some yeast. This is an interesting aroma for a IIPA; I like it. The flavor is again unlike any other beers I’ve had. Initially I get medium sweet malt with citrus. This is replaced mid palate with a Belgian character with yeast and spices coming through. The finish is dry somewhat bitter hops that linger for a long time. The alcohol is not a factor in this one. Full bodied and easy drinking. Pretty complex brew; I’m happy to have tried this one.
