2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
A rare misjudged collaboration from two of the greats. Like David Bowie and Mick Jagger. Or David Bowie and Bing Crosby. Bowie and anyone - let’s face it, he’s a fucking menace in a studio with anyone but himself. This looked fine: cloudy chestnut with a tall, rocky head. Muddled aroma - supersweet but with some sharp pine needle cut-through. Grape juice, molasses and US hops. Minimal carbonation, verging on oily. Bizarre mix of candy sugar and high-alpha hops. Awful at Australian summer room temperature, better after a stint in the freezer. Aggressive hop profile but God it’s sweet. (330ml bottle from Platinum Cellars.)

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Jubilant amber, yogurt lid of an off white head. Professional like Belgianage sweet steeliness with a forklift load of hops. Surprisingly spicy, plastic lime and face first hops. I can’t remember the last bottle of Batch III being terribly bitter, but this matches the sweetness and bitterness supremely well - halfway into it’s marked lifespan. Spiciness comes through with the faintest white choc as it warms a little, Belgian antics snared by clean hopiness on the finish. Bear hug of bitterness on the finish does quite equal 163 IBM for me though.
Bottle, Uttoxeter sometime 2012?

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Nice double. Deep darker and dirtier than most. Tastes raw and organic. Smooth with big bitterness. Small Belgian nose and flavor. A lot of dust in the bottle is right up my alley.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
(33cl bottle from Chez Clem, Nantes) Pours a hazy dark amber with good (tan) head formation, retention and beautiful lace. Aroma is jammy, apricot marmelade hops with some biscuity notes of malt and hints of belgian yeast notes that add to the fruitiness. Full-bodied, soft carbonation, oily texture, bitter finish. Flavour has moderate sweeteess upfront followed by the bittering hops. Alcohol is very well masked.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Nice murky amber colour, looks like a real beer. Complex aroma of honey, orange, fresh bread. Big grapefruit bitter bite in the taste, touch of sweetness but not much. Aftertaste goes on forever. Serious beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma of malt, some mild citrusy hops and candi-sugar. Hops come out in the flavor more distinctly as well as a roasted note within the malt profile. It is big, malty, hoppy and it even has a long bitter finish. Lots of levels of flavor here.
