This request edition ale is the crafted alchemy of a party of some of Europe’s finest brewers, Mikkel Bjergsø and Kristian Keller of Mikkeller (Copenhagen, Denmark) and Urbain Coutteau, Carlo Grootaert, Phil Driessens, and Peter Braem of De Struise Brouwers (Woesten-Vleteren, Belgium).
Both breweries have attracted considerable international attention for their artful interpretations of traditional ale styles enlived by a rich sense of invention. And both are also very highly esteemed by the RateBeer.com international community of beer tasters. We hope you enjoy this unique little treasure.

Struise-Mikkeller is as we said in the past "Best of two worlds". We delivered an IPA with 130 IBU, but a bitterness hidden the Struise way, counter balanced by maltyness, alcohol and rest sugars. People who do not like Ipa’s will actually be amazed, the general hop bomb addict will not understand, so yes this is a controverse brew... enjoy anyway!

Great looking hazy deep golden pour. White fluffy head...had to wait awhile to drink this after my clumsy. heavy-handed pour. Big PNW hop notes. Sweeter than I really like in my IIPA’s, but not offensively so. bread/biscuity crystal maltiness, very well balanced by an shit-ton of hops in the massive bitter finish. Very well brewed!

Bottle picked up at Canals in Lawrenceville, NJ. I didn’t realize this was retired until afterwards, and upon returning to the shop to buy another bottle I remembered I had originally grabbed the last one. This beer pours a cloudy orange/yellowish gold body with strong haze. Aroma is nice citrus and pine hop. The flavor is sweet, not really all that bitter - with notes of malt.

Non sono d’accordo con il classificarla double IPA... a me sembra più una strong blond belgian ale extra hopped... è molto buona e pericolosamente beverina e questi 130 IBU non so dove sono andati a finire...

Somehow I found a couple 12 oz bottles of this a week ago at Jungle Jim’s in Fairfield OH. Pours a lightly cloudy deep orange with a thick off white head. Aroma is a bit oxidized, but I can definitely picked up some citric and hop oil notes. A bit cheesy (a nice Parmesan) is a bit characteristic I am getting. Flavor starts with a soft IPA character, quickly gaining caramel and fruity characteristics. Finishes a bit salty and surprisingly not bitter (130 IBU?) Medium body and a soft carbonation. I have no idea if this is what it is supposed to taste like or not but its pretty good, just not what I expected.

Pours dark brownish amber w/ a lofty head that lingers forever. Smells of salted hopped up river cobble. Medium nectar w/superb carbonation. A very rustic specimen w/ charred caramel, salty peanut shells, bit-o-honey. This thing is supremely hopped w/ laser beam focus. Alcohol is well hidden. Awesome. Trump!

Have to pour slowly or you will get a big, thick off-white head that takes a while to dissipate. Cloudy golden amber color. Nice lacing on glass. Extremely bitter aftertaste. Flavor is hops with toasted malts. Oily mouthfeel. Flavor is too much like a bitter coffee for my taste.

33cl bottle, lot A309, whatever the hell that means. Amber with thick white foam, exceptional retention and lacing. Stale cheesey hops and overripe fruit in the aroma. Oxidized, lots of bitterness left but not much else

Huge thanks to fata. this is a great beer. Nice copper color with huge froathy head. taste is hoppy with dryaftertaste. Lots of floaties in here too. Malt was present with a good bit of citrus. Recommend if you get a chance

11.04.09 bottle. Pours light hazy amber with off-white medium density head. Aroma of spice, malty, hint of alcohol. Tastes bitter-hoppiness, citrus, grapefruit, astringent. Dry mouth feel.
