aubreya (656), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Apr 21, 2008 The color was orange/brown. The head was creamy, white, and thin. The aroma was citris, dark fruit, alcohol, and strong hops. The flavor was hoppy, alchol, sweet, and dark fruit. The palate was thick-bodied. The finish was hoppy.
Veer (324), Landskrona, Sweden Aug 5, 2008 Aroma: wonderful. Powerful fruity hops, apple peel, honey, vaguely of pine, caramel malt, grapefruit, wheat? Somehow dirty. Fusel alcohols? Comes off about as expected.
Flavour: bittersweet. Surprisingly roasted. Less sourish than I expected from the scent. Yet w/ a very nice, almost lactic, sourishness. Grapefruit bitter hops. Fruity, very yeasty, dry aftertaste.
Palate: fizzy, creamy, thick, yeasty. Quite slimy.
Appearance: murky light orange with yellow tint. White, fine, irregular head. Leaving classy lacing... caesar (2475), Zeist, Netherlands Aug 2, 2008 Bottled. Pours a cloudy orange brown color, thick creamy head. Aroma of yeast, slight sourness, slight hop, some fruit like orange, pineapple and citrus. Taste is not as bitter as I expected by the style. But more like a fruity sirupy triple, though with a soft bitter hop background. AndrewKScott (281), Lemont, Illinois, USA Aug 2, 2008 Pour is strange, almost looks red at first, then I realized it was amber. Aroma of sweet citrus, sour candy, pineapple and apple. The taste is subtle grapefruit with a subtle hop bite. This double IPA is different from the american standards, and it’s all the more apparent that european breweries can’t offer the same type of hop complexities that American breweries can. However, this is still a great ale. fordest (1684), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Jul 30, 2008 11.2 oz bottle. Citrus and definite hops on the nose. Carries through to the flavor as well with some spicy Belgian stuff going on as well. Nice combination of flavors. I liked it. TheGrandMaster (1419), Auckland, New Zealand Jul 30, 2008 Bottle shared with yalnimim (courtesy of Papsoe), in NZ, poured amber with a large pillowy head. A punchy aroma with plenty of alcohol, malt that is both caramalised and juicy. Alcohol is very strong in the mouth, with a mouthfeel you can just about chew. Flavours of molasses and orange, as well as spicy. Comes up well, but would struggle to drink more than one of these.
