moseslikesbeer (171), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 7, 2008 bottle. I don’t think this went over well at the tasting but I thought it was darn good! Very ruby red color. Aroma of raisin or dark fruit. Creamy and yeasty with a hint of the 10%. A Belgian strong ale that I can get behind for sure.
santoslhalper (205), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 14, 2008 2006. Deep, dark purple body with a rich, well lacing off-white head. Plum, chocolate, rum, oak, and much more in the nose. Heavy phenols with loads of dark fruits. The taste is very potent, with lots of molasses, plums, dates, raisins, honey, spice, and tons more. A really great brew, and I’m sure would cellar nicely. hophead75 (1700), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Oct 12, 2008 Bottle as an extra from Emacgee. Deep lightly hazy amber in color with a medium to large light tan head. Aroma of raisins, somewhat earthy, caramel, spice and yeast. Taste is caramelized malts, raisins and figs, musty and spicy yeast, earthy . Full bodied, finishes on the sweeter side with lingerng fruit and spices. Although I liked the original more, this was still a very nice beer. Thanks Ethan! larsniclas (3034), Gothenburg, Sweden Oct 4, 2008 Sampled at EBF08.
Hazy brown. No head.
Soft and smooth.
Some dark sugar and nutty hoppiness.
A bit fruity and sourish.
SuzyGreenberg (1043), Seattle, Washington, USA Oct 2, 2008 33 cl bottle - 2005 vintage; pours glowing , orange-brown with tan head; not as dark as the GR; drinks smooth with a slight tartness; lots of belgain candy; crisp and of course on that struise sweet side; not nearly as good as the regular version; flavors of spice and dank fruit are on the mild side; the rich texture is there, but i wasn’t very impressed with this saxo (2326), Højbjerg, Aarhus, Denmark Sep 29, 2008 Bottle. Nice head with good duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are fruits, caramel, spices and malt. Some alcohol in finish.
