Pannepøt (read Pannepeut) is a beer specially brewed and named as a wink to the Danish market presented at the Danish beer festival ’Københavnske Øldage 2006’ exclusively at Ølbutikkens stand. It is produced to express the brewers gratitude to all the Danish beer amateurs that drink their products daily. Pannepøt has later been available on draught and bottles at bars and shops in Belgium & Denmark. Since winter 2006, this beer’s popularity kept growing in Belgium at such a level that the production today equals Pannepot.

2010 vintage, opened 8 July 2014. Pours opaque darkest brown with small short-lived head into a De Struise tulip. Aromas of dark fruits - cherries, dates, plums and a light touch of roasted malts and alcohol. Taste is very full-flavoured, sweet initially, then transitioning to dryness and a very light bitterness. Tastes are exactly the same as the aromas suggest: cherries, dates, plums, alcohol, roasted malts, plus a very light hint of vegemite. Medium bodied but the huge flavour makes up for any deficiency in body. This is an absolutely fantastic full-flavoured ale that stands up well against its well known cousin, Pannepot.

2012 bottle drank July 2014. Pours with almost no head or lace and a shade lighter brown than the Pannepot to reveal some red notes. Aroma is day old rustic bread behind simpler just ripe sweet red fruits and very mild baking spices compared to the Pannepot. Flavor is somewhat simple and cloying sweetness with very little spiciness or bitterness. There’s a hint of fruit pits and banana in the finish. The feel is thin, watery, fairly lifeless, and it finishes quickly. Not much alcohol noticeable. Alone I might like it more. It pales in comparison to the Pannepot though. Perhaps it’s more of a table beer but at 10%...

11.2 oz. bottle from Wilbur’s; 2011 vintage. Appearance: slight off-white film of head, oily appearance, dark copper to light brown color, cloudy, no lacing. Aroma: prune, Belgium yeast, oak, molasses. Palate: medium full body, alchoholic warming texture, oily texture, soft carbonation to none. Taste: sweet maltiness and pruney fruit, light yeasty tartness towards the end. Overall, very strong, but super smooth and very nice balance.

In the aroma I detect the mild smell of freshly baked bread and perhaps raisins. There is the sweet, but not syrupy, smell of alcohol. The appearance is caramel brown with a hint of orange. It is clear with absolutely no head. The taste was moderately sweet and quite pleasant. The palate is full bodied and complex with a thin drinkable texture. There was minimal carbonation with a lingering sweet finish. Overall this is truly a fantastic ale!
