ChristianScheffel (2014), Odense, Denmark May 9, 2008 Dark brown with a long lasting, big, tan head. Dark dried fruits and oak dominate the aroma. The barrel aging is obvious, but the end result is a less complex and intense aroma than the original (I opened a bottle of each of course) Super dry, with the added dry feeling of the tannin, fruity and oak flavours.
BDR (1850), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Jul 15, 2008 A huge thanks to guerde & oslo for this gem. The aroma was of the usual pitted fruits and spice I get from any Pannepot, but with the wonderful addition of oak and all it’s associated aromas plus the calvados. In the body, much the same character as the aroma, but the calvados really cuts through. A murky brown pour with faint head. Guerde (440), Welcome, Minnesota, USA Jul 14, 2008 (bottle, thanks Marsiblursi!!) Pours muddy brown with an off-white head. Just a really great aroma of chocolate, vinousness, plum, raisin, oak all over, with some unidentifiable spice, and a fair amount of yeast. The taste is very heavy on oak, with a lot of vinousness, tart berry skin, plum, which yields to a salt and oak finish. Mouthfeel is definitely full and chewy. This was good, but it still isn’t as good as the masterpiece that is the original Pannepot. pilsnerrogge (1554), Finspång, Sweden Jul 13, 2008 2005 bottle Deep burgundy colour, firm head. Vinous aroma with notes of red berries, liquorice and calvados. Flavour is vinous with sweet notes of malt, currants, sour cherries, calvados, and oak. I can even sense a slight roastiness. The finish is alcohol bitter and warming. Joakgust (60), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 11, 2008 Bottle, 33cl - Dark mahogany color, with a small beige head. Aroma is dominated by strong notes of pears, calvados, caramel and with hints of wood. Flavor is malty with notes of oak, caramel and strong hints of pears. Finishes with a slight touch of warming alcohol and a soft bitterness. A very interesting and exciting complex beer! DragonStout (1138), Orlando, Florida, USA Jul 10, 2008 Poured a nice copper orangish hue wit a thin head. The on this was sour and vinous cherries. Flavor was slightly sweet with a nice warming finish.
