kkearn (690), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 31, 2008 330mL bottle. Pours deep mahogany, capped with a moderate sized tan head. Lively aroma, with spices, pear, wood, and alcohol in the foreground, and brown sugar, caramel, fruitcake, and dark wheat present as well. Sweet malt, raisin, apple, and whiskey are the dominant flavors, with notes of wheat, plum, and wood. Finishes with some warming alcohol and apple skin flavor. Really nice beer. It’s been a while since I’ve had the original Pannepot, but I think I may like the base beer more than the barrel-aged varieties. I hope to try the 4 versions head to head someday...
mybestfriend (253), Gothenburg, Sweden Oct 12, 2008 Bottle, vintage 2005. Pours a dark brownish colour with some red in it and with a pale beige head. Aroma is of dried and fresh bluefruits - plums. Also some vanilla from the oak barrels and a sweet and malty note of fudge and caramel. Really nice! The flavour is sour-sweet and malty with note of fresh fruits that are mixed together with unripe berries (strawberry and raspberry). There is also both a sweet note of roasted caramel and fuge and a hint of maturity. You donät fel the alcohol (impressive!). This is quite nice, but I do prefer Pannepøt. thebeertourist (1896), Oslo, Norway Oct 10, 2008 Bottle, vintage 2005. Very dark brown with a small stable, creamy beige head. Vinous, roasted coffee and chocolate aroma, vanilla oak in rich portions. Vinous flavours, good roasted bitterness, tart fruit, some chocolate. State of the art. Darker in color then I expected decent head. The nose was dark fruits... Taste was also dark fruits, spices, vanilla/oak from the ageing. Creamy texture, a little over carbonated but well balanced. Easy to drink and I enjoyed it but it wasnt as good as the original pannepot. Thanks brad, for the brew! plovmand (679), Helsinge, Denmark Oct 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a dense long lasting beige creamy head. Ripe fruit, caramel, spices and balsamico in aroma. Creamy body. Flavour is very fruity and vinous and it contains notes of vanilla, prunes, spices and a bit very pleasant sourness. Great beer indeed.
