"Vintage 2005"
Our PGR has aged for 24 months on oak barrels and has been bottled for the first time on the 27th of December 2007. The main difference with the Pannepot Reserva is that PGR matured the last ten months on Calvados oak barrels, adding extra complexity to the beer. We dedicate this beer as a tribute to Jeppe & Michael of Řlbutikken in Denmark. Those gentlemen were the first to discover our beers on an International basis back in 2004 and are responsable somehow for our beers being all over the globe since then. As a token of gratitude towards Jeppe & Michael, the first shipment of PGR was scheduled to Řlbutikken so they could be the first to launch its commercialisation.

Thanks to Dedollewaitor for trading this. 2005 vintage. Pours a gorgeus mahogany though the head fissles away within seconds. Lots of oxidized/aged notes of raisins and port. There is a nice vinous acid note in the aroma but the flavour isn’t as acidic as expected. Notes of chocolate, oak, yellow apples and a bit of vanilla. Slightly acidic finish with a bit of dried fruit sweetness and completely lacking bitterness.

Barwa: ciemna, pod światło rubinowa, zmętniona. Piana beżowa, drobno pęcherzykowa, średniej wielkości, dość szybko opadająca i pozostawiająca jedynie niewielki wianuszek przy ściankach. Aromat: początkowo faktycznie nieco winny, drewniany i lekko waniliowy. Jednocześnie kwaskowy i wyraźnie alkoholowy z akcentami rodzynek, czekolady, ciemnych słodów oraz cukru kandyzowanego. Smak: zdecydowanie pełny, umiarkowanie słodki, z czekoladą i rodzynkami. Następnie bardziej wytrawne akcenty zbliżone do czerwonego wina i wyczuwalna goryczka.

Bottle (2009) at the Elm Tree, Cambridge. Ł10(!) but what the hell, YOLO and all that. Murky purple brown, a thin film of light brown head. Pure alcohol, figs, dark chocolate, molasses in the aroma. The taste is a tempered sweetness with just enough bitterness creeping through. Bittersweet muscovado sugar and cooking chocolate aftertaste. Warming alcohol in the finish which envelopes you completely. Dried fruit bittersweet aftertaste. The right amount of tongue-tickling carbonation. Nothing short of incredible.

Calvados barrel-aged Pannepot and distributed more widely than its predecessor Pannepot Reserva. Pale beige, sticky, creamy head, relatively stable, colour a hazy dark reddish brown. Gracious, powerful and seductive bouquet of chocolate, caramel, walnut, dates, old ’jenever’, oak, almond, cloves, banana, cinnamon, coriander, old port wine, cider... Soft, rounded palate, dark fruits, very full, profoung maltiness, nutty, caramelly and chocolatey malts, refined sweetness but nowhere cloying, retronasally very woody, tannins, vanilla and warming calvados in a subtle way, further supported by the same drying coriander and aromatic hops as in the regular version. Fantastic brew, they even succeeded in improving an already great ale - this version easily belongs to the best beers in its style.
