3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20
2005 vintage (first ever I think). Brown brew as per bottle with a small white head that doesn’t linger too long. Aroma is full of sweet candi syrup and almost no barrel notes (I would have thought it would be a barrel bomb but it isn’t...). Mouthfeel is watery compared to the regular Pannepot and carbonation is low-medium which is nice. Taste is sweet with a sour edge. Flavors of molasse and again close to none Calvados notes. The sourness must come from the barrel though and maybe Calvados just doesn’t blend well with this kind of brew. It is good and enjoyable, just not meeting my somewhat high expectations for a barrel aged Pannepot. Might be because it was bottled in 2007 too.

Side by side tasting of 2005 & 2010 @martjoobolut’s, thanks. [Numbers according to 2010].
2005- Clear dark brown color. Small size, bubbly beige head, stays. Fruity, sweet, woody, raisins in aroma. Raisins, sourish, oxidized, plums/prunes in taste. Tastes old. Raisiny sourness in aftertaste. Plums stones too. In a weird way- refreshing? (7/4/7/4/14=3,6)
2010- Murky dark brown color. Tiny to almost no head. Dark fruits, plums, anise, medical, raisins, oak, woody, sweet notes in aroma. Sweet, raisins, oak, woody, candy caramel in taste. Woody and sweet caramel in aftertaste. Alcohol is very well hidden in both brew. But this one is more full of flavor and simple complexity. Wonderful!

330ml bottle - thanks martjoobolut - vertical tasting 2010 vintage (6+:4:7:4:14=3.5+)
First aroma is calvados. Dry woody oaky aroma, some acetone, spicy, nice dark roast. Full palate, but also pleasantly light. Nice roasty taste, fairly mellowed with age. Finish keeps the roast, some clovelike spice, dry old bitter hops, and banana hints. Covers alcohol very well. Improves with each sip. To be honest, started a little disappointing, but I ended up really liking it.
330ml bottle (Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam) (7:4:8:4:15=3.8)
Pleasantly oxidised aroma, malty, less roasty, nice fruity esters hinting at dark fruits. Lovely sharp palate, cherry sharpness. Love the balance of the aged Raisins in the finish, prunes too. Love the sharpness, the vapours up the back of the nose. Massively prefer this to the "young" one.

Incredible beer. Aroma deep and complex. Wood, dark malts, candi sugar, fruits like figgs and dry raisins. It has a very dark brown appearance, the palate is quite exceptional. Taste is so smooth and so complex without being overdone.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
330 ml (vintage 2010)
Appearance: Pours a dark brown color without a real head.
Aroma: Prunes, molasis , wood, candy sugar, nuts, alcohol
Taste: Starts moderate, but lingers to really sweet, but the earthy hops save it from becomming cloying.. Sweet malts, toffee, treacle, molasses, figs, prunes , spices, cloves, cherries, oak,Alcohol is not really there i the taste. Earthy hops finish it off and avoid cloying sweetness.. Quite complex. And after 1 bottle you clearly haven’t noticed everything. So a very nice complexity.
Full body, moderate carbonation, light sticky texture.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
10%ABV. Strong Porter.
I opened a bottle of properly chilled 2010. Poured out of the bottle with no head.
40°SRM. Black brown color like the local coffee in Singapore, carmelized till it pours out black as sin.
Sweet nose full of prunes and honey plums, with a little more brightness so that you don’t get a lot of preserved fruit. This is special since strong porters tend to have that tang of preservation in the nose. Light residual wood smoke in small wisps with honey and caramel. Very pleasing. Very inviting.
Lightly carbonated mouthfeel with a moderately alcoholic palate. Brief bitter hops and then a very smooth slide into vanilla beans, honey dates, leaf tobacco, toffee, dark chocolate and some burnt sugar syrup. All ponderous flavors but floating on an ether so light and perfectly balanced with just enough hops to bring each flavor to the fore without being cloying.
Goes on Favorites List big time!
