COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Vintage 2005"
Our PGR has aged for 24 months on oak barrels and has been bottled for the first time on the 27th of December 2007. The main difference with the Pannepot Reserva is that PGR matured the last ten months on Calvados oak barrels, adding extra complexity to the beer. We dedicate this beer as a tribute to Jeppe & Michael of Ølbutikken in Denmark. Those gentlemen were the first to discover our beers on an International basis back in 2004 and are responsable somehow for our beers being all over the globe since then. As a token of gratitude towards Jeppe & Michael, the first shipment of PGR was scheduled to Ølbutikken so they could be the first to launch its commercialisation.

2005 vintage (first ever I think). Brown brew as per bottle with a small white head that doesn’t linger too long. Aroma is full of sweet candi syrup and almost no barrel notes (I would have thought it would be a barrel bomb but it isn’t...). Mouthfeel is watery compared to the regular Pannepot and carbonation is low-medium which is nice. Taste is sweet with a sour edge. Flavors of molasse and again close to none Calvados notes. The sourness must come from the barrel though and maybe Calvados just doesn’t blend well with this kind of brew. It is good and enjoyable, just not meeting my somewhat high expectations for a barrel aged Pannepot. Might be because it was bottled in 2007 too.

2009 Bottle. Pours a deep red color with a big frothy beige head. Aroma of malt, fruits and caramel. The sweet taste is of malt, coffee, caramel, dark ripe fruits, chocolate, oak, spices and alcohol. Full body and average carbonation. The finish is malty, a bit bitter and with a hint of booze. This one is complex, smooth and very very good.

Bottle 2009, exp. 04/05/2019. A very dark brown beer with an almost medium and beige head. The nose is just great, lots of dark and dried fruits, prune, dates, strawberries, some liquirice and hint of alcohol. Taste has dark fruits, prune, raisins, quite strong herbs, dry barrel, some fresh strawberries. Hint of alcohol in the end but that’s not bothering, it should be there. Almost full bodied, smooth and nice to drink. The great beer, a perfect balance and smoothness, very complex.

Color caramelo oscuro limpio con espuma beige. Aromas de caramelo, frutas confitadas, madera. Cuerpo denso, textura sedosa, con inicio dulce y afrutado con toque de acidez y final seco, como madera. Excelente.

A most generous gift from HogtownHarry. Pours a deep brown pour with a wispy, fast-fading tan head. The aroma is great - intense figgy fruitiness. Dates, plums and some hint of tartness that reminds me of some cider barrel aged stuff I’ve had in Ontario. Slightly boozy but not in a bad way - it’s got loads of oak and warming intensifies this aspect of it. Rich and chewy with a nice balance. Showing some age but is in fine condition.

Vintage 2011. Esplosione di gusti che va dalla prugna e le bacche alla nocciola e caramello, con una torbatura leggera e note di legno maturo e dolce. Stupenda ed elegante!!!

Vintage 2009. Bottle from Geers. Dark, almost black, with a beautiful red shine to it when held in the light. Quickly disappearing tan head. I had the Reserva the day after this, and I must say the second aging on calvados barrels does wonders for this Grand Reserva: the acidity of the French oak is much more balanced and less prominent on the tongue. Velvet like smoothness, I only had a real hint of booze (calvados) on the last sip. Hiding its alohol % very well. My favourite Belgian beer?.. My favourite Belgian beer.
