Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

Bottle 2007 Less head then the "normal", also disappears some quicker it seems. Color seems to be about the same. Tastes more fruity then the "normal" one. The aroma is some less good, but the taste is ok. Taste seems a bit less complex then the "normal" one. But it’s nice.

2007 vintage bottle bought at de Bierkoning, Amsterdam. A finger of dense, blond foam, resting on a red shaded, dark nut brown body. Rich and vinous aroma with a refined and rounded malt sweetness, an inviting fruity sweetness of overripe tropical fruits and yellow apples. Delicate sweet flavors. Mild toffee-ish malts. And again, lots of inviting, ripe fruits. Some gentle wood tones, a touch of vanilla, some mild spices, all together with a fine Cherry- or maybe Vermouth-like accent. Lingering alcohol warmth throughout. Big body, supersmooth in the mouth. A fine dryness emerge in the finish. A just love the various Pannepot editions, and this one is no exception. Delicious!

750 ml bottle, 2005 edition (!) thanks to Eric, thanks a lot man. Pours a dark red-brown color with lots of particulates, murky with a large white foamy head. A sweet fruity nose, light oak and chocolates. A great flavor; tangy, strawberries and other fruit, chocolates, yeast, sweet cherries, close to being tart. Very good and sort of dry and light oxidation after 5 years. Very good.

Medium brown head. Brownish red body. Linoleum and old carpet aroma with roasty soy sauce and earth notes. Dry-sweetish alcoholic chocolatey earthy taste with dried fruit and spice notes. Full-bodied. Mild, smooth mouthfeel. Dryish-sweet alcoholic earthy licorice and fruit aftertaste with honey notes. Very mild and balanced. Admirably light and delicate. 2006 vintage. Dark reddish brown with a medium-sized pale beige head. Good head retention and nice lacings. Deep and rich malty aromas. Lots of fruity notes (cherries, plums, figs, currants) - this is like a fruit basket! Tagging along the fruits are notes of wood, cola and chocolaty fudge, and wonderful caramel notes. Very vinous. Some spicy yeast. Very complex, almost overwhelming. At first, the taste is very reminiscent of red wine- fruity notes, wood, earth and spices make for one vinous experience. After a few sips, things get easier to sort out and the red wine character decreases to some extent. Some malts, but not very powerful. Lovely balance of sweet caramel, fudge, and notes of ripe dark fruits (but not as complex as in the smell). Dry woody notes linger on, Belgian yeast, spices and earth. The sweetness is balanced by a gentle tart note that sticks around to the finish. The finish is mildly bitter with notes of well integrated warming alcohol, currants, wood, mild phenols and hints of iron. Beautiful and rich, very well balanced. Surprisingly light body with rather high levels of carbonation. The mouthfeel definitely makes the beer dangerously easy to drink. All in all, very good, better than the Grand Reserva version. Deepest, darkest brown with a tan coloured head that fades to a constant film, aroma is sweet and crammed with anise spices. Taste is sweet, malty, dark chocolate and a deffinate licorice hit with a jammy finish. All in all one hell of a cracking beer - MUST stock up with more next year in Brugge.

Bottle. Wow, a surprise from a friend. 3 way blind taste test alongside pannepot grand reserva 2006 and westvleteren 8. Nice dark appearance with a creamy beige head. A very clean ripe white fruit smell, I get pears here mostly, and something reminiscent of soap also gets me. Taste is quite malty, lot’s of those pears still around and a good boozy taste. Beautiful silky smooth mouthfeel, a real success.
