Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak eversince (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.

Some years ago Struise was rather unknown in Belgium. Within the last couple of years they have grown to be one of the best and the most innovative Belgian brewery. This beer shows why!
Hazy dark brown with a tall beige head that last. Powerful aroma of sweet malt, barrel, spices. Very complex and extremely inviting. Flavor is sweet with a lovely dryness from the barrel aging. Soft and smooth, with millions of subflavors. No doubt a world class brew, I can’t wait to taste the Grand Reserva!

Thanks Carlos for cracking open this beautiful 750 for our tasting! Red wine, spice and raisins in the aroma. Complex taste. Raisins, grapes, wine and brown sugar play together. Woody and slightly vinous. Lots of spice character. High carbonation yet quite rich - but not thick nor cloying in any way. Brown sugar spice on the finish. Very nice beer. Side by side with the regular Pannepot, this beer is just not quite as good. Is this a great beer? Yes. But, the oak aging seems to take a little away from the base beer while making the flavors conflict ever so slightly - although, this beer is also slightly more complex than the base beer as well. Quite simply, I’ll take regular Pannepot over this just barely (it has taken me a long time to come around to this conclusion - used to be that I couldn’t stand the spices in regular Pannepot!), but would jump at the chance to drink either one!

750ml bottle shared, thanks to Papsoe. This poured dark brown with a tan head which produced great lacing. Nose was of dark fruit, brown sugar, oak and spices. Taste was of pepper and spices with vinous fruit. Very complex. Mouthfeel was medium with a dry finish and some alcohol noticeable. Incredible stuff!

Had bottle at Delerium Tremens on 6/22. One of the best beers I’ve ever head. Aroma of dark fruits, dark caramel, spice, and licorice. Taste is even better, sweet, but with notes of wine, wood, spice, and dark fruits. An exceptional, exceptional beer.

Thanks to MaltOMeal for this 2006 bottle! Shared with MaltOMeal and thickfreakness. Pours a dark brown with a tan head that leaves pretty lacing. Nose is brown sugar, pitted dark fruits, oak and winter spices, including nutmeg. Strong fruit flavor of plums and figs. Sugar and white pepper give extra levels to this beer. Palate has a rich sweetness and covering mouthfeel. This is a well layered beer...enjoyed every sip. Thanks for sharing Bill.

Pours a dark red with a big white head. Aroma of oak, caramel and some spice. Sweetness balanced with oak and lots of alcohol. Similar to the original but a bit sweeter. Still a nice beer
