Ljunkan (380), Karlstad, Sweden Apr 27, 2009 Bottled sample, thanks to Todeon. Pours a red brown color with a nice light brown head. Very nice fruity aroma with some oak and vanilla notes, spices and somewhat a little bit of funk. Flavour is about the same, both sweet and acidic/tart and fruity with some nice gingerbread notes, oak, citrus and spices. Filling in the mouth, pretty smooth. Really nice. tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Apr 26, 2009 750 mL bottle at the ’09 Fish Fry. Pours dark red brown with a large beige head. The aroma is amazing: raisin, yeast, anise, graham crackers, oak, rum, brown sugar, clove, dark fruit, zest. It smells so good it took me several minutes to take my nose out of the glass to take a sip. The flavor is sweetish at first with raisin, rum, brown sugar, and some sticky prune juice notes. But through the mouth it picks up a faint tartness that cuts the sweetness beautifully. A distinct sharp oak quality develops as well and really does bring the flavors together. The finish and aftertaste are dry and just a touch spicy with residual oakiness lingering far into the dry-ish aftertaste. Very complex and perfectly balanced. This beer is amazing. I want more! Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 26, 2009 thanks to tronraner for bringing this to Springslicker’s fish fry - Very complex, very tasty. Mix of blackberry, oaky, cherry and orther fruity notes mixed with a lot of woodsy aromas. As nice as it smells, it tastes even better - all of the wood and fruit that was in the aroma, plus red wine, chocolate, maybe some coffee, too. Very, very good. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 14, 2009 Bottle from PUB’N. Pours turbid ruddy muddy deep brown with 3-fingers of off-tan head. Nose is earthy, peaty, with caramel malt, spicy notes, some cacao, blackberry, oak, and bourbon. The flavor was spirity, oaky, with figgy fruit, brown sugar, cacao, blackberry, and slight rauchy notes. The palate started semi-sweet, but got more cognacy at mid-point, and more oaky bourbony spirity late! Do whatever you need to in procuring this, but keep it legal. it isn’t worth a felony charge, but it’s close. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Apr 9, 2009 Pours brown / garnet with a tan soapy, dense head. The aroma has oaky, candy apple, dark toffee, Belgian yeast and oxidation that works for it. Medium / thin body with a lot of soft gentle carbonation. The flavor starts with green apple, dark malt, odd sweet & biting trait, Belgian yeaste, underlying oak and some alcohol. The finish has lots of sourness, green apple and funk. Good interesting and unique. I’m very glad I got to try this one - thought I’d never get a shot. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA Mar 23, 2009 2005 vintage Bottle at Otown throwdown.
