Taste is sweet, metallic some nuttiness, caramel, winey, and oak, some alcohol.
Lots of wine, dustiness, some sulphur, cherry, cidery.
Aroma is metallic, cidery, cinnamon, sugary-sweet, more sulphur, and oak.
Lots of rocky head that adheres to the glass even after the head dies down.
Finish is sweet, still more metallic flavor, wine, some dryness and sweet nuttiness.
Thick, sweet mouthfeel that does not cloy, nor does it get get overly bitter.
SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 19, 2009 750 ml bottle - thanks after4ever!! 2006 vintage; pours clear, roasty brown with fizzt tan head; oh, man this is one of the greats and reminds me of how much i loved my first pannepot; very complex aromas of oak, dates, candy spice, yeast, chocolate and who knows what else; all the same there in the flavors; creamy texture goes down like silk and not a trace of the 10%; pretty much perfection and looking forward to another bottle!! Swolf3 (252), Elkton, Maryland, USA Feb 17, 2009 Bottle thanks to Gabe. Poured pitch black with big tan head. Aroma had a tart note to it with oak and spices. Taste was very complex. Oak, Spice, dark fruit, vanilla, raisins. Very silky smooth mouth feel. Easy to drink and enjoyed very much Thanks Gabe. GMCC2181 (848), Bear, Delaware, USA Feb 16, 2009 750ML (2005) bottle. Corked and capped. Dark in color, good head, good lacing. Tart almost sour aroma. Also some spices and dark fruits. Taste is slight oaky taste, tart, spices, dark fruit. Low carbonation level. Really easy to drink. Thanks Robert for saving me a bottle. I owe you! Overall another great beer by struise... riversideAK (2650), Shoreline, Washington, USA Feb 11, 2009 2006 version. I think this was also shared by Tom. The aroma is sweet and sugary, lots of candy, french toast, dark fruits, light tartness, wood. Pours a muddy red brown. Lots of dark malts in the flavor, dark fruits, fruity candy, a touch of tartness from the oak. Really an interesting beer. Glad I got to try this. JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Feb 9, 2009 Thanks to tocdog69 for a share of this wondrous beer! Lovely dark pour, amber but not murky. Its got a vibrant quality to it that exemplifies the complex flavors it contains. The nose is amazing, with a complex blend of barrel (woody and oaky, not that generic smoothness you often get with the pretenders), mild vanilla, rich and varied spices. The mouthfeel is amazingly silky, and the way that the regular Pannepot (itself a superlative beer) has been transformed is just a delight, with mild sour flavors enriching it. Awesome. I hope I have another chance to try this sometime. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 9, 2009 Thanks to tocdog69 for sharing at Pre Sex. Pours a murky dark amber with a tan frothy head. The nose is fruity, earthy, caramel, spicy, fig, raisins, yeasty. Flavor is belgian candy, raisins, dark fruits, rummy, some nutmeg, yeasty. Palate is spicy and prickly.
