Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

33 cl bottle, Reserva 2007. Dark brown coloured beer with smooth creamy lasting head. Aroma’s: coffe, caramel (malt) and liquorice. Sweet malty light bitter taste which evolves to a more smoky bitter. Wel balanced beer. No TMA results jet.

Very dark, almost black pour. Thick tan head. Aroma of oak, spice, and dark fruit, yeast, a bit of booze. Flavor features tons of roasted maltiness, quite sweet, toffee/caramel finish that lingers for a while, very nice. Extremely balanced and well rounded from the outset, but this aspect of the beer improves even further as it warms. Sticky, syrupy mouthfeel. Great beer.

25 oz bottle, 2005 Vintage. Pours a mostly clear dark amber body with a one finger fizzy off-white head that had nice retention. Huge fruity nose, lots of yeast, light alcohol, just a light barrel character. Overall, it smells like this is to be a little drier than the regular version. The flavor is yeasty, very fruity with lots of fig, plummy, and caramel notes. Moderate but not overpowering alcohol, and surprisingly not a whole lot of oakiness. I was expecting this to be much more about the barrel. Still overall pretty sweet, but not so much as the regular. Pretty full bodied with a bit of sticky caramel, but it seems like this is a little thinned by the alcohol. A little too much overly fizzy and frothy carbonation keeps this from being better. Decent, but not as good as the regular version.

This beer had a great smoke oak flavor. It was almost like a nice smooth bourbon cut with spice, chocolate, and dried fruits. The head of the beer is excellent. This was my last Begian beer experience in Belgium during my 2009 trip. I was not dissapointed, but I was expecting a bit more from the beer...Maybe for complexity.

2005 bottle. Pours a deep swampy brown color with a 2 finger thick beige head that left some spotty lacing on the tulip. Nose of candy sugar, figs, raisins, sweet oak. Flavor is very sweet with notes of candied dark fruits, brown sugar, oak, and faint booze. Been sitting on this one for a while......tasty.
