MartinT (5030), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 1, 2009 My Bottom Line:
Berries meet peppery spiciness and lenient licorice, before moderate alcohol heat and oaken dryness conclude this elegant sipper of a Belgian Strong Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A frothy head of foam covers the dark mahogany.
-I found this one to be less spicy and sweet than the regular Pannepot and not as fruity and vinous as the Grand Reserva.
-The nose was redolent of BBQ spices at times.
-Tiny bubbles build a lively mouthfeel, increasing drinkability.
-Some roasted malts appear in there at times, and cola-like notes spring from the sweet spiciness.
Bottle. 2005 vintage. JKJ (24), Herlev, Denmark May 29, 2009 Bottle.bottle (big thanks go to JFM for sharing this one) Dark brown color with creamy beige head. Aroma was a little oaky. A lighter body than the regular pannepot but overall not as good as the regular. Still a great beer.
MitchWayne (264), Kokkola, Finland May 28, 2009 Dark reddish brown beer, nice lacing once again. Lovely sweet, complex and vinous aroma, the alcohol is more present here than in the original but it smells like heaven itself. So malty, spicy, fruity, now with some nice wooden notes mixed in rather than distracting the whole like in Pannepot Grand reserva. So soft yet very warming, you can feel the alcohol mostly when it has already gone down your throat. Superb beer, at least as good as the regular pannepot which makes it a perfect beer or perfect beer plus for me. Got to get more of this, If I had to drink only one beer for the rest of my life it would be this one. Still gay for Pannepot, have to five the bastard and shut up now before someone gets annoyed with me. Ober (1165), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands May 23, 2009 An almost black colored beer, with a beautiful dark thick foamy beige head. It leaves a beautiful lace on the glass. The aroma of dark malts with dried fruits. Some sweet with spices. Complex. The taste has a thick dark malty flavor with fruits like prune and raisins. There are notes of oak. Also some spices in the back. The aftertaste is smooth, with some nice bittersweet with warming alcohol. Hank1980 (734), Athens, Georgia, USA May 21, 2009 2005 bottle shared at tasting. Poured dark with red around the edges, tan head. Aroma of is very subtle, with light oak, dark fruit, and spice. Taste is well balanced mix of fruit, malt, oak. Some light chocolate flavors are noticable. Finish is smooth and refreshing. No alcohol is present in this 10%’er. Overall, a very nice brew. Bontus (293), Waasmunster, Belgium May 14, 2009 Bottle, Hopduvel. Pours ink black with a tan head. Sweet fruits with coffee malts and a touch of caskwood and oak. Sweet with a vinous lactic sourness and a subtle bitterness. Full bodied but rather soft carbonation. Excellent beer. KnutAlbert (3111), Oslo, Norway May 13, 2009 On tap at the Football Pub, Rome.
A beer elexir, with all the elements expertly blended in. Sweet, malty, heavy, yet balanced. Coffee, cocoa, spices, malt. Just lovely. Dangerously strong to have on tap! lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 12, 2009 SpringsLicker’s Fish Fry. Sample from a bottle thanks to tronraner. 2005 bottle. Dark brown red with a soft tan head. Dark candi sugar, light spices, vinuous and loaded with subtle aroma notes. Taste is prunes, figs, more wine like character, light spices. Wow.
