COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.

4 oz. served into a tasting snifter at ChurchKey. From notes; 2010 vintage. A: Pours a dark ruby color. The head is little more than a thin khaki film. Still, it’s very stout-like in appearance. S: There are some evident tones of nuts, dark fruits, oak, and spicing here, however it’s not nearly as evocative as I expected. What is here, at least, is well balanced and pleasurable. T: The opening is mildly nutty and spicy. This will progress into a middle of earthy toffee, with a light oak finish. Solid complexity, but the flavors themselves aren’t blowing my mind. M: It’s medium bodied in texture. The alcohol (seemingly in typical De Struise fashion) is well concealed in spite of its (also seemingly in typical De Struise fashion) dry finish. Very drinkable, as well. O: Decent, but pretty disappointing. The only brew from De Struise this night that didn’t wow me. Mayhaps the keg isn’t in fantastic shape? This would probably be better if it were bottle conditioned, in fairness.

Bottle from Sterk Avondverkoop Amsterdam. Pours dark with a small head. Aroma-wise I smell a dark maltiness, mild but pleasant. The taste is dark, complex, every sip is different. There is really a lot going on here. Considering its 10% strength it doesn’t taste overly strong. I don’t notice much of the oaking. Overall this is good beer. Much better than e.g. a Rochefort 8 or 10.

I had it first in Kulminator in Antwerp and I was like "God created beer and called it Pannepot Reserva" The Aroma is not very strong but the taste is amazing. Pannepot Reserva rocks comparing to regular Pannepot and Pannepot Grand Reserva Vintage.

Tried the Pannepeut, Pannepot, Reserva and Grand Reserva on a wonderful evening in Bruges. Like the Goldilocks fairytale, the Reserva sits in the middle as a perfectly balanced beast. Delicious, and better than WestieXII imho. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great as all pannepots. Had the 2010 reserva. Dark brown with a small beige head and soft carbonation. Flavor is wonderfully complex and well balanced. It is strong and sweet but not boozy nor overly sweet. Flavor is vinous with calvados, dried fruit, roasted malts, coffe beans and marzipan. Every time I have a pannepot I am surprised. Somehow you remember it is great but you never remember the exact flavor.

330ml bottle poured in a chalice. A: Pours a deep amber to brown color with many particles floating around. Head is medium and very beige. Retention is slow, however it never disappears completely. A small bubbled layer remains with many lacings left S: Very fruity and sweet. Strong candy on the nose. Notes of dark chocolate and coffee. Wood. Roasted malts and yeasts. Earthy hops T: Taste is intense. Very tasty beer. Sweet upfront. Candy, roasted malts, liquor, dark fruits. Notes of chocolate and coffee M: Extremely creamy beer. Molasses. Low carbonation O: Very close to the regular Pannepot. A bit milder on alcohol and taste but, of course, a brilliant beer [ BA Review @ 10/17/2009 ]
