Commercial Description:
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.
Latest bottling: april 08

750ml Bottle at C&P Throwdown courtesy of Cheeseman. 05 Vintage. Pours a muddy brown with some reddish highlights and thick big long lasting tan head. Huge nose has plum, raisin, fig but also some heavy wood and slight sour notes. Taste is moderately spicy up front with a sweet chewy caramel middle with dark chocolate covered raisins. Finishes lightly sour with lingering notes of vanilla, chocolate, caramel and brown sugar. Super complex, super amazing. Pannepot is amazing in its own right but this is just a bit better, the slight sourness sets it apart from its normal version.

(bottle, 2007) pours the darkest clear ruby colour with a frothy, quickly-diminishing light brown head. complex but restrained aroma of different kinds of fruit, some cherries, strawberries and banana, oak, yeast, subtle hints of vanilla and cinnamon and very little alcohol. flavour is dark grainy toasted malts and yeast, with light notes of fruit and spices and a chewy, bready warming finish. medium to strong body with lively carbonation, alcohol is well-hidden.

Reddish brown color with a beige head and good retention. Aromas of clove, cinnamon, strawberries, and figs. Tastes of caramel, spices, dark fruits, and apples. Unfortunately the taste is also a bit metallic, so I’ll take away some for that. Medium body and carbonation. An enjoyable beer, and without the metallic tastes to it, would be much better.

Bottled at Cafe Frape in Mestreech. COlor is hazy dark brown, huge tick stiff head, proper lacing. Nose is berries and wood. Flavour is dominated by soft buttery malts. The oak aging gives it a twist. Very nice soft soothing palate. I think it is one of my top 5 beers.

Bottle 75 cl. shared with my self - delicious. Perfect large creamy light brown head with excellent lacing. Lightly cloudy dark brown body. Heavy malt aroma of caramel and grain, oak barrels, heavy alcohol and light hops, brown sugar and spiced - coriander? Full creamy body and soft carbonation. Heavy sweet flavor and light bitter. A great beer.

2007 Vintage. Overall I prefer the regular Pannepot, but a nice beer. Nose is a bit too boozy, but some of the plum notes come through. Taste of port, figs, raisins, oak and spice. Has a more sour character compared to the regular version.

Muddy brown with a little vanishing head. Plenty of dried fruits, red berries, plums, malt, with just an hint of roasted & spices. The flavour is sweet, fruity. Thick body. The alcohol is not that hidden, and perhaps is also a bit too carbonated. A very good beer nevertheless.

Bottled sample, thanks to Todeon. Pours a red brown color with a nice light brown head. Very nice fruity aroma with some oak and vanilla notes, spices and somewhat a little bit of funk. Flavour is about the same, both sweet and acidic/tart and fruity with some nice gingerbread notes, oak, citrus and spices. Filling in the mouth, pretty smooth. Really nice.
