COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Pannepot Reserva was an idea from my brew collegue Carlo who wanted to age Pannepot in genuine French oak barrels (barrique 225 liters). We have brewed 90HL at the end of 2005 which has been aging on oak ever since (14 months). 30 Hl was bottled Tuesday 8th May 2007. 60Hl has been transferred now to second hand calvados oak vessels and will be bottled again early autumn 2007, we will name that batch Pannepot Grand Reserva. As quality and results rule at Struise, the Reserva was already brewed again and aging on oak.

Dark reddish brown beer, nice lacing once again. Lovely sweet, complex and vinous aroma, the alcohol is more present here than in the original but it smells like heaven itself. So malty, spicy, fruity, now with some nice wooden notes mixed in rather than distracting the whole like in Pannepot Grand reserva. So soft yet very warming, you can feel the alcohol mostly when it has already gone down your throat. Superb beer, at least as good as the regular pannepot which makes it a perfect beer or perfect beer plus for me. Got to get more of this, If I had to drink only one beer for the rest of my life it would be this one. Still gay for Pannepot, have to five the bastard and shut up now before someone gets annoyed with me.

Bottle shared by esp0r with me, Simonsen & Edvard, september 28th 2013, thanks a lot! Dark brown, redtinted, with light brown head. Aroma of toffee, cocoa, prunes, spices. An ever changing comples taste starting with coffee and dark sugar, going through dark chocolate, berries, raisins, pine, pepper, bready malt. Excellent and a joy to experience. Alcohol is pretty well hidden for a 10%, still giving a warm feel towards the end, where the beer feels more fruity together with hints of oak. This is one of the beers that just make you smile. I love it!

2010 bottle, consumed 16 Mar 2014, Solidly aged flavor, slight hint of oxidation which is not offputting yet, but any more and it would be.. I love the taste of aged pannepot normally, and this is no different the aging on oak doesnt impart as much flavor as I would have thought, almost a drying type finish but not much else.

Bottiglia 33 cl, del 2009, ordinata su birraland e bevuta a casa. Nera con schiuma evanescente. Legnosa, liquirizia, un po' di caffè. Corpo pesantuccio, difficile da bere ma buona ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhold

For a 2008 vintage, this has held up remarkably well. A sweet bread aroma and taste with a wonderful burnt caramel flavor with vanilla. Really impressed with this one.

A magnificent Belgian ale. 2009 version. Pours a beautiful deep brown with wispy white head and sediment. Aromas are a bit metallic at first... but open to sweet dark dried fruit.. Raisins and prunes, dried apples and bubblegum. Flavors are sweet bubblegum and more dried fruit. A nice bitter oakiness rounds this beauty out. Very good.

Flaske, 33 cl, Ørsted Bar. Årgang 2008. Mørkebrun, forholdsvis frodig beige skumkrone. Kapow-næse. Appelsin, nødder, peber, sherry-noter, træ. Fyldig, stor og kompleks smag. Mange lag. Cremet struktur. Tørrede bær, abrikoser, honning. Lang, lang eftersmag.

2008 Vintage. Ar: Plum, leather, rasin - a touch of sherry - rum and white pepper. Ap: Murky brown - tiny off-white head with poor retention, leaves a foam ring and rare wisps on the top. T: Deep raisin and brown sugar - peach, plum, treacle, a bit of nougat - warming alcohol, but exceptionally clean - subtle, complimentary oxidation - low bitterness, a bit of mossy hop flavor - toasted malt and fig on the finish. P: Full body with medium-high carbonation - finish is medium. O: Rich and complex dark Belgian strong ale - delicious mix of fruit and dark sugar - substantial and warming, but very eloquent, not harsh or hot.

WE INTERRUPT THE OLD REVIEWS TO BRING YOU #1000! 330mL bottle, 2009 vintage. Polish off the old La Trappe chalice; kinda wish I had something a bit more la-de-dah, but it’ll do. So what are we looking at, that’s what we’re here for afterall...A deep, near-opaque bronze/mahogany coloured beer, that’s what. Holds a small creamy tan cap. She’s a bit shy at first to let her true odour to be released, but I’m patient...it’s taken over 11 years to get to this point afterall... Decidely vinous it must be said; black plums and blackcurrant esters, combined with medium-toast oakiness, woody spices of clove, nutmeg and black pepper, and a hint of vanilla. Add to that a good fat dose of burnt caramel and bitter chocolate maltiness, with emerging aged notes of raisin and honeyed fig. A sipper for sure; you have to give a beer of this strength (and quality) your undivided attention otherwise you’ll end up rather intoxicated.. She sits laid out length-ways on the palate; long, sustained, has a smooth, syrupy quality, if only abruptly, thwarted by creamy bead, leading to an almost velvet-like sensation, not that I’ve ever consumed velvet orally. With all of this considered, one would assume she would be quite a sweet beer, but you know what they say about assumptions... But it does indeed start off with a decent helping of biscuity, treacle-y, cake-y, pudding-y sort of sweet malty goodness, but we digress and lead on from that portion of the entertainment to much more pressing, complex things. What things you may ask? Well how about woody spice, like cloves and mace, or perhaps throw in ripe figs and plum skins, and maybe, for a limited time only, nutty port-like rancio. That’s right; it’s all there. A good peppery punch of bitterness balances, but by no means dominates. A kiss of warmth from her boozy breath and she is finished. Such a shame to lose her; why one bottle Muggus, for shame. Anyhow, lovely beer, truely. Worthy of an 1000th, or even 10,000th, if we ever get there...cheers!
