UPDATED: MAR 19, 2013 Huge thanks to oteyj for picking this up from the de Struise online store. Pours an extremely dark red-brown with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma is otherworldly; bretty funk, barnyard, oak, acetic acid, wine, sweet grape, fig, plum, raisin, molasses, and caramel. Good god this night is starting off well. Flavor is awesome; the dark fruit from the base Pannepot goes to the background, but it remains present throughout. The foreground is marked by earthy funk, a touch of vinegar, and a great dry finish. Palate has to be a 5-- full and flavorful, but the sour touch is so well done. Another unbelievable brew from de Struise.

From December 2010 tasting notes. Thanks to shrubber85 for sharing this one. Bottle. Dark brown with a ruby tint. Aroma was raspberry, molasses, chocolate, soapy, balsamic vinegar, wood.... very complex. Yeasty flavor with burnt sugar, prune, alcohol, brandy, and oak. Carbonated palate.

On tap at Lion’s Pride. Dark brown pour with a small, creamy head. Aromas are fruits, chocolate, and a little bit of wine. This was my first experience with Pannepot (and De Struise for that matter), so the funkiness surprised my palate. Tastes of cocoa, dark fruit, sweet malts and a little bit of vanilla oak flavor balanced with the sour notes. Finishes smooth. Very warming. Very, very good.

Draft... Poured a deep chestnut color with a rusty one fingered head. Rich aromas of wood pulp, compost, figs, raisins, chocolate... wow cant wait to sip this monster.... Mmmmm alot more lively then I expected with a bit of funky sour notes that get harnessed in by the rich bittersweet chocolate and earthy backdrop. Figs, vanilla and a light spice... that dries out very nicely into a long lingering finish.

20/04/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (tap).

Tasted blind. Bottled. A red-brown beer with a orangey head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, over ripe as well as fresh fruits, roasted malt, citrus, cherries, and wood. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and bretteanomyces making it a bit acidic, leading to a tart, dry, and woody finish. The alcohol burns in the throat. Thanks yespr for sharing.

Bottle. Mild citric note, red wine barrel-like. Cloudy, very dark brown colour. Very small light brown head. The flavour is nicely sweet, good citric note. Very good balance in this beer. Sweet and sour. Good woody barrel note. 938320

I’m just enjoying a whole bottle of this beer. The bottle looks great, the beer in the glass also. Deep black, creamy head. Dry-malty aroma. Starts strong-malty, a bit alcoholic, rusty, dry. Some fruity notes of grapes and raisins. Also a little bit smoky. Intense finish, frutiy again, a bit like a good dry red wine. Gets better with every sip. Very drinkable. A great brew!

On tap at The Lion’s Pride.
Came to the table a solid brown/black color with a thin tan head that slowly dissipates but never leaves. Smells of oak, vanilla, caramel, dark fruits, dark sugars, a little tart, and a little funk. The flavor follows the nose quite well but adds a heavy tart cherry, chocolate and raisin flavor. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet sugary tart mouthfeel. This is a damn fine beer, in fact my favorite from the night. The funk is restrained and mixed very well with the quad that is underneath!

0,75 l bottle, shared with Balazs.
Poured deep ruby with a medium creamy beige head. Interesting aroma of the real Pannepot ale with fine dried fruits, roasted grains and cocoa, caramel and dark chocolate, but after a while some lurking tart/fruity character opens slowly. Smooth mouthfeel, not so powerful as the original version. This one is easier, lighter with a fruity tartness in the background, more rounded, not so robust roasted flavors, caramel, cocoa and spicies, some dried fruits like plum, raisins. Fine, pleasant!
