COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

2011 bottle. finally found one. a deep ruby brown pour with a medium sized light brown head. aroma is dark chocolate, brown sugar, rum soaked plum and dark fruits, cola, a note of licorice and spices. flavors of rum soaked red cherries with licorice. some brown sugar and dark chocolate notes. toffee begins to show as it warms. the palate of this beer is the real secret. it’s light and airy in body but full, robust, and long in finishing. velvety yet sparkling. abv is non-existent. there’s a good reason this beer is world class.

Bottle, pours a nice dark and a tan head, the aroma is a bit of funk, the beer has lots of dark fruits a nice yeastiness to and it was pretty good stuff. I enjoyed this one.

330ml bottle poured into a trappist glass. Pours is dark brown with red tinge...dark, with tan head. Aromas are dates, dried figs, alcohol, and toffee. Taste is similar to the aroma, but better. There are notes of roasted malts, dark fruits, sweetness, but not overpowering. Some light smokiness is noted, and a mild hop note on the back end to take the edge off the sweet malts. Alcohol not really noted on the taste. Palate is full with average carbonation. Nice lacing on the glass. An excellent example of a Belgian Strong. Well Done!

I really liked this beer. I found it more appealing then the Grand Reserva.

Bottle shared with northropfrye. I’m pretty sure I can smell fermented plums, delicious, the taste matched the smell, a hint of chocolate, some smoke. Dark caramel colour. I greatly enjoyed this and would like another.

Bottle. Oh mercy, is this good stuff! Dark cola pour with a dense yet thinner tan head. Nose is licorice, belgian yeast, nut, a bit of booze, and a hint of dark fruit. Medium but slick mouthfeel with a nice carbonation presence. Taste is very complex - sweet candy sugar, yeast, ripe fruit/banana peel, and some alcohol heat. This thing just delivers on all fronts. Tremendous beer.
