Commercial Description:
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Holy! Pours a deep amber brown. Dark fruit, funk, sweet malt, mollases, roasted malts, candy sugar, cardamon, other rich spice nose. Amazing medley of flavors of figs, candy sugars, malty sweetness, sour funk. AMAZING beer!!!

07 vintage. Pours chestnut brown with a dissapearing dark brown head. Awesome aroma of banana, clove, overipe fruit, candystore, chocolate, and yeast. Sweet flavor of plums, raisins, mollasses and a good roasted malt character. A tad lighter than expected and very fruity. Sampled next to a Westy extra 8, and although truly a top Belgian, the Westy was slightly smoother. This beer tasted a tad harsh in comparison.

Opaque dark pour with a tan head and nice lacing on the glass. Spicy aroma with lots of malty clove and fruit. Creamy oak flavor with whiskey and vanilla. Bitter hop finish with lots of spice.

2007....Yo this was a malt milkshake. Sweet as fuck. Richer than the most successful entrepreneur...but a boozy ,unbalanced one. Apple esters remind me of Samiclause from Austria ...I digged this mostly-its not mindbending or anything.Good recipe/Bit erratic.

Bottle 20-MAY-2009. 2007 version. As I open it it just bubbles out of the bottle. Quite typical, so I run for the glas. Huge head on a very very dark brown, almost black body. I can tell impurities floating around, and slowly falling to the bottom. Sugary smell with loads of malty stuff almost coca cola in the nose. Tasts of brown sugar, figs and other malty notes. Very creamy and a perfect belgian beer.

Speechless. Nice, thick carbonated kick on the front of your palate that immediately dissipates. Dark fruits in the nose, nothing crazy. Flavor is so extremely well balanced. Creamy, sweet malt, candied figs, dates. Been looking for this beer for a few years, enjoyed via trade with lopes. Left me wanting more.. much more.

Pours a opaque dark reddish brown with a huge beige head that left some spotty lacing and hung around awhile. Aroma is of sweet dark fruit, cherries, sweet malt, apple, chocolate and booze. Flavor is a pretty complex mix of dark fruit, wood, spice, and alcohol. Mouthfeel is rich and full and finishes sweet and warm, with a lingering oakiness. Pretty sweet tasting overall, and a little sour. Not a bad brew, but I liked the Rochefort 8 a little better.
