It’s been a long, enjoyable ride getting to this point with you. Oh, and I’m sure I owe you a beer or two...:
The cap popped with a some pressure and the head began to slowly climb as soon as it was removed. I was able to pour a glass, but it was 90% head, so we had to wait for it to settle. It did settle, nicely, leaving a ton of webbing on the sides of the tulip. A tannish head rests on top of the deep brown body. The aroma is deep and fruity with a healthy dose of ripe plums, overripe banana, burnt caramel and ethery alcohol. The body continues in the same vein - lots of plummy and sweet malts mixed with a heavy dose of alcohol. Esthery pear and apple prick the tongue. Something a bit tart, almost cherry juice, hits the back of the tongue on the way down. Wow - a real belly warmer as the alcohol sits in the gut for a few seconds. Not the best BSA I’ve had, but a quite enjoyable bottle to share on this occassion. Cheers Dad! Garrat (1132), Suffolk, England

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours a deep black, marvelous looking stuff, surprisingly darker than the Grand Reserva. Nose is yeast, dark fruit, spice, fig, raisin, toffee, cinnamon. Palate is big, rich, and a bit boozy. Dark fruits, well integrated character. Tastes "bigger" than the Grand Reserve, but coarser, simpler. Some sourness, and a brief finish. I really must try an older vintage of this, but until then my rating stands. Really very good, but not exceptional this go around. 41cubs (134), , New Jersey, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 1, 2009 I feel bad to do this but this one wasn’t great this time. Smell of red wine, rye seed, pumpernickel bread, alcohol and tart cherries. Great looking brew. It is a yeast beast. The carbonation overtook this beer and made the flavors just meld together until it was in my glass for an hour: just too much. Flavor was like yeasty, must and prune juice with an alcoholic dry finish. The mouthfeel was like soda when cold and fresh but luxurious and coating when warmed. The bottle is two years old and maybe wasn’t cared for so well so I’m anxious to give this beer another shot. Sorry Struise. 2007 small bottle. danielcurtis81 (883), San Diego, California, USA

I need to learn that Struise beers like to gush and open and pour. Pours an opaque deep brown with a disappearing light brown head. Nose is caramel, raisin, dark fruits, barrel aged alcohol. Flavors follow caramel, raisin, dark fruits, oak, brown sugar, nutmeg. Mouth is super carbonated, smooth with an oaky finish. Real good beer. AR (422), Georgia, USA
