COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Bottle. 2008. Dark muddy brown with toffee and dark fruit aromas. Rich smooth and creamy. Brown sugars and dark fruits in the velvet smooth mouth. Delish brew.

In degustazione al locale del Polli a Milano, mi è piaciuta ma non esageratamente, pensavo fosse una imperial stout, forse aveva dei problemi? boh la riproverò

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a deep ruby brown with a small light tan reddish hued froth. Aroma is very sharp and fruity, lots of big dark fruits, plum, some sweet cherry, raisin, a bit funky and a touch cheesy. Flavor starts with a Very nice sharp cherry Note. Picks up some woody earthy funky characteristics along with a toasty sweetness. Finishes a bit more on the tart side, biting yet still nicely complex and vinous. The sweet and sour notes linger with a touch of booziness. Medium body and a sharper carbonation. Excellent beer

Big thanks to my buddy djrn for sending me this bottle. This has been on my wants for a long time. I wanted my first beer of 2011 to be a good one and I think this should do the job nicely. 2007 vintage. The beer pours a hazy dark brown color with a huge tan head. A great looking beer. The aroma is crazy complex. I get a lot of brown sugar, cherries, chocolate and a sourdough bread component. All of the components meld very well together and make this beer a joy to smell. Hopefully the beer will taste as good as it smells. The flavor doesn’t disappoint. I get a lot of roasted malt and chocolate flavors in the beer. I also get a lot of dark fruit - mainly cherries - along with some sweet brown sugar notes. Some of the sips reveal some coffee notes in the flavor. The coffee is unexpected but compliments the other flavors very, very well. There is a little bit of alcohol in the flavor but it is fairly well hidden. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. A truly exceptional beer and one that I am going to love to try again. Luckily Ross send me another bottle which I plan on aging for several more years.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2011 De strusse Pannepot 2007 bottle we have been sitting on for a while. Pours dark brown with a murky appearance. Medium head and retention for a mile. Strong smooth aroma of buttered toffee, dark fruits and a little alcohol. Smells lovely. Flavor is boozy buttered toffee and chocolate fudge with a nice spice note. Very good. One of the better beers I have had in a while. Finishes with a mild Belgian funk. The age has done this wonders.

Very very nice. Dark, roasted malt, espresso, chocolate and fruits even maybe a rum back taste. Its complex and yet subtle and smooth. Rich, creamy but still docile. Well balanced, good smell, taste, and for a black beer the palate isnt assaulted. Really nice, my wife even liked it, who isnt a fan of really dark beer. Overall, I love it. I have liked the other Struisse beers Ive had, I would recommend it. Try one

2008 bottle. Appearance: Quite black, cola like, with a small brown head. Aroma: lots of raisins, quite malty, vanilla, leather, cocoa, lots of spices, slight hint of alcohol. Very nice. Flavour: Big dark fruit hit at first, then nuts, spice, leather, malt, quite a thick mouthfeel, rich alcoholic finish. Very nice indeed. Enjoyed whilst sitting in a cabin on Christmas night in front of a log fire.
