Commercial Description:
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Bottle pours opaque dark brown with a tan head that lingers during the whole glass and laces from top to bottom. Aroma is sweet, spicy, yeasty, and has a touch of alcohol to it. Flavor is amazing. Dark fruit, candi sugars, biscuit, yeast, and alcohol. Overall is a great brew.

Black garnet hue; tight tan cream. Powerful aroma of warm, pungent spices and bright alcohols; biscuits, candied fruits and burnt, sugary malts all embrace. Toffee sweetness explodes into spices and a mild raisin acidity with a drying alcohol finish and jammy aftertaste. Fluffy mouthfeel—velvety in texture, pinpoint carbonation, weightless.

Light and dark, rich and delicate, an intoxicating interplay.

33 cl bottle, dated 2007, thanks Jukkabro.

Bottiglia da 33cl al Mulino di Villaromagnano (con tortellini panna e prosciutto completamente DOMINATI e sottomessi); una birra straordinaria, calorosissima ma ricca di complessita e devo decisamente approfondire Struise.

2006 vintage. I opened it, and it literally exploded all over my clothes. Pours brown with a nice tan head, aroma of berries, fruit, and candy sugar. Flavor is heavy on raisins, but has a lot of other candied fruit and sweet, caramelly malts. The heavy alcohol is well-hidden. Yes, this is amazing.

2006 Vintage courtesy JB175 - thanks! Pour is, well, very robust! Fills my tulip glass with a foamy medium brown head that is highly carbonated, and settles into a nice, thick film. The aroma is a treat...full of dark fruit, sweet malts, brown sugar, chocolate, and cherry, and a whole lot more...complex, but not overly heavy. Flavor is good, but I can’t say its great...fairly heavy on sugary malts, with tons of dark fruit, a dose of smoke, and a very dry, leathery flavor that just doesn’t seem to fit. Decent alcohol burn as well. Carbonation is a bit high, but not offensive. Not bad, but nothing wonderful for me here.

Great, sophisticated belgian beer with lovely aroma of berries, fruit, candy like banana and chocolate. The taste has allot of synthetic fruit, suprisingly bright and easy to drink yet complex. Slightly vinous with very well hidden alcohol. A winner.

11.2 oz, 2007 vintage bottle from a shop in Liege. Pours dark brown into glass with a very thin head that is gone in seconds. Looks heavy and bold. Aroma is of spice and sweetness. Taste is strong and hits you in the face. The 10 percent is masked well by some sweetness. The spice I was smelling is there as well as a nice complex and long bittering finish. Mouthfeel is suprisingly lighter than I thought it would be, with moderate carbonation. As it warms, the flavors only come to life even more, and as the alcohol starts to take effect, you are pulled into a wonderful session of a wonderful beer. I like this one alot.
