COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Beer pours a dark opaque brown, with a light tan head that dissipates rather quickly. The aroma reminds me of a full bodied red wine with complex aromas of bread, grapes, and alcohol. The beer feels think and hardy on the palate, and is surprisingly smooth. Flavors of french oak, and coffee are mellowed by the sweetness of malt , and chocolate flavors. The warming of the alcohol finishes the experience. This is a fantastic beer.

Pours opaque brown/black, huge pillowy tan head that builds and builds, lots of sediment. Aroma of plum, apricot, caramel, funky yeast spice, toffee, citrus, mild roast, mild alcohol. Taste is rich and more fruity with some spiced bread, finishes with bitter hop. Lots of thick malt and yeast. Smooth

Bottled: Aroma is full of molasse, wood, sweetness, malt and acid. Quite sweet flavor, intensive fruity notes of plums and cherries, molasse and wood barrels. Dry astringent and light bitter finish. Quite nice but a hint too sweet.

Wow. Just wow. 2008 bottle. Poured a murky brown with amazing head. Pillowy auburn with bubbles throughout. Interesting. Nose is not totally there - spicy and sweet. In the mouth it’s another story - a perfect, luxurious mouthfeel. Lots of fruit, alcohol, and a velvetly quality that you only get with a truly special beer. A real rolls royce of a beer. The finish is long with a slightly bitter twist. A real treat. About as good as it gets. Funny how the nose gave no indication of what lay ahead. A real journey. De Struise my hat is off, on the floor and awaiting donations from passers by for my next pannepot!

Thanks to CrellMoset for the opportunity to try this great beer! Vintage 2006. Poured into my Chimay Chalice. A- Beautiful coca-cola brown colored body that pours with a 1 finger off white root beer colored head which has perfect retention and plenty of lacing is left behind in the glass. S- Nose is sweet and complex. A cola like scent comes up first with a sugary sweetness. Behind this is a big malt presence and a bit of alcohol. T- Cola, anise and plum upfront with a substantial bready yeast backbone. A bit of astringent bitterness comes through alogn with a spicy yeast flavor for the finish as the other flavors remain consistent. P- Wonderful, full, very smooth yeasty body. Low-to-medium carbonation. O- This is a very nice quad and is probably one of my favorites. Wonderful and complex. Will buy this again. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-18-2008 02:42:51

33cl bottle. Pours a deep brown color with a thick creamy tan head. The scent was of spices, raisins and malt. A very complex flavor greets you on the first sip, and gets better as the beer warms. The depth of the spiciness, mixed with the aroma made this a very enjoyable experience.
