Dark brown pour with tan head. Smells of malt, berries and spice. taste is big and complex. Chocolate, spices, fruit, a little alcohol.

Aroma: estery, synthetic banana, alcohol, interesting malt, liquorice (lovely).
Flavour: yum, powerful sourish-sweet & salty banana, liquorice & dark malt. Really splendid. Coffee. Dried strawberry. Some hops lurk in the background.
Appearance: crimson (towards black) with very fine light yellowish-brown-tinted head - creamy.
Palate: yeasty, fizzy, thick, rustic.

Mahogany with a dense head. Sweet aroma of chocolate, spice and berries. The flavours are distinctly spiced and malty with some dates, chocolate, wood and vanilla on top. Finally, it has a huge body. All in all it’s excellent and tasting wise in family with the westy.

2006 Bottle. Pours a deep rich brown with a huge tan head. Aroma of sweet dried fruits, malt and allspice. Tastes sweet and rich of dried fruit, malt, spice with a slight bitter finish. A complex beer that should be sipped. Top notch.

2006 bottle (7/31/08). Pours dark mahogany with a large, supple beige head and lacing. The nose doesn’t announce itself across the room, but take a close whiff and fall backwards: sweet malts with raisins, burnt sugar, and a buttery cream; a touch of wine and alcohol, like whiskey; some lighter elements like refreshing fruits and flowers; and hints of chocolate. It’s so coherent, but wait until you taste it: sweet with more dried fruit, sugar, alcohol, hints of smoke... all as one. It’s full bodied and oh so lush, and the finish... my mouth is soaking up the experience long after it’s gone.

’06 and ’07 bottle (11/13/09) - More fruit and alcohol in the ’07, sweeter and also with a lightly creamy sour note. Still some great complexity with a lot of berry and plum fruits, light raisin, and a range of malt notes. The ’06 is darker, larger, more-tan head. More nut, malt, and candi sugar, less tart fruit of the ’07. I prefer the ’06, though it’s starting to show signs of over-carbonation drowning out the flavor like Rochefort struggles with.the experience long after it’s gone.

Bottle from Bottle Trek. Poured a dark brown and had the aroma of dark fruits and carmel. Tasted of carmel and molasses. Definately on the thicker side. Overall a great brew.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, reddish highlights, fluffy tan head. Aroma is dark fruits, a bit vinous, molasses, spicy alcohol. Dances on the tongue with prickly carbonation coupled with a bit of alcohol spice; molasses, dark fruits, and fresh baked, rich, yeasty bread on the taste. Finish is tingly, spicy, yeast, hint of alcohol; dark fruits and burnt brown sugar seem to grow again after several seconds before receding again. Mouthfeel is effervescently carbonated while still beautifully creamy. Wonderful.

Bottle: Pours just like cola, with s small ring of tan, bubbly head. Aroma is a little astringent, with dark fruits and brown sugar. Tinge of nail polish remover. Mouthfeel is velvety, flavors of nutmeg, cinnamon, and other spices. Warm finish. Pretty rich beer.
