After confirming that I got "the right" Pannepot, I’m also relieved to say that this is one of the best Belgian Strong’s I’ve had to date. The beer was sticky, but not too sweet. There were flavors of dark fruit, light coffee, molasses, and spices (although, not overdone). The palate was excellently smooth, balancing complex flavors with ease. A Great beer! aroma: aged beer, raisins, dark fruit.
when i opened the bottle, the beer really wanted to get out so some of it spilled to the floor. pours almost clear brown with a sizable nutty-brown head.
great taste, a little aged beer over this one, but just a little. dark fruits and spices. alc. not present. aftertaste is super, the fruits vaporiza slowly leaving a roasted note behind. best "aged beer" type i ever tasted. still, i don’t like this type. DownsouthGav (602), Greater London, England
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 26, 2008 Aroma of bread, cream, barley wine, raisins, red wine. Pours a dark brown beer with a frothy brown coloured head. Taste is sweet, vionus, some burn and smokiness. Some carbonaton. Gives a warming feeling. This beer is a really big beast and definitely a sipper. The 10% is respectably kept at bay. This would suit a really gamey meat. Top notch. rallison (113), USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 23, 2008 This will be a comparison against my review of the Reserva. Read that for the baseline.
Altogether better than the Reserva. The flavors in this are just a bit more clear and not muddled whatsoever. While this has no barrel aging characteristics or the wine notes of the Reserva, this is still wonderfully complex with a great spice/brown sugar/raisin taste. Not quite as complex as the Reserva, but the flavors here mesh better and make this a truly delightful beer.
Highly recommended. foodtraveller (26), Belgium
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jul 20, 2008 Very dark beer with a fast to disapear foam. The beer is a tipical struise with strong cnaging flavors and personality. Malt, dark fruit, bitter and dry. Very complex. Very long aftertaste which asks for slow drinking. Another fine struise. bhensonb (4239), Woodland, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 19, 2008 33 cl bottle; 2006. Dark, opaque brown color with a huge rocky tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, like dates, and roasted malts. Medium body with sweet notes of light stone fruit and treacle. It goes on like that, and the finish is lightly sweet, but nearly dry. It’s not a bitter finish, but it is incredibly tasty. Wonderful ale. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 17, 2008 Updated: Jul 19, 2008Had many Pannepots in Europe, but the one I rated was on tap from Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà in Rome on 7/6. Just a beautiful beer, almost black caramel color with a thick off-white head. Aroma of cocoa, caramel, and dark fruits. Similar taste with additional vineous notes. A beautiful beer that deserves a place along Westy 12, St. Bernardus Abt. 12, and Rochefort 10. Great, great beer.
