In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Botella 2013.

330 bottle, vertical tasting of 2011-2012-2013-2014. Dark red color, slightly hazy, with now head at all, only the 2013 had some signs of foaming. Aroma was sweet and sugar-caramelly, more alcohol-strong in the 2012-2013 vintage ones, cherry-like in the 2013-2014. Taste was really spicy and sweet, again with big differences between the vintage. All had big notes of Belgian sugar, caramel, malts, cherries, raspberries, and some alcohol. Some chocolate is there too. Aftertaste is spicy and long. Medium to full body with low carbonation! Struise nailed it again!!!

Vintage 2011 from Belgian e-shop Very dark color, almost black, very thin head that dissipates. Aroma is light tart, combined with the color it reminds me a bit of oud bruin, dark malts, not much sweetness. Taste is amazing, ballanced, light tart, floral with amazing complexity from the combination spices. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, very drinkable. Amazing brew...

Lore (1373) - Budapest, HUNGARY - FEB 20, 2015
dark brown colour, minimal beige-ish head; complex aroma of plum jam, raisin, green apple, woody and herbal notes, some alcohol, hints of chocolate and yeasts; taste of tons of dried fruits (mainly plum), woody notes again, some cocoa, roasted sugar, minimal alcoholic spiciness and some herbal liqueur; a bit lower carbontion than the ideal one, but otherwise an excellent Belgian Strong Ale
