In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Bottle, 330ml. A dark beer with minimal brown head. Aroma is of dried fruits, alcohol, wood and nuts. Taste is sweet with a strong dried fruit character. Medium bodied, smooth and with faint carbonation. Rich and complex character, perfectly balanced, full of true Belgiam character.

Bubblegum and fruit in the nose. Not eccentric or outstanding in that way but very enjoyable to drink unlike some of the belgians.

2015 bottle. Pitch black with a thin lasting foamy beige head. Aroma is of dark fruits, nuts, figs, coffee, chocolate, some spice. Taste is of nuts, figs, dark fruits, blackcurrant, winter spices, warming signs of the alcohol on the finish. Really smooth, soft foamy to oily mouthfeel, soft to medium carbonation.

Bottle, 33cL. Home. A pitch black beer with a medium beige foamy head ; medium retention. Roast, dried fruits, light chocolate, prune. Light to medium sweet, round, light to medium dry bitter warming ; balanced. Medium to full body, elegant, average texture, average carbonation, fruity warming finish. Overall, a really good dark belgian roasty ale ; lack of texture and "wingspan" to be awesome.

Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, dried fruit and liquorice.

Opaque dark brown beer with slight yeast and with a slight/medium brown head.

Medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, Belgian yeast, dried fruit and liquorice.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Just like every good Belgian beer, it is so hard to say anything else here. The beer could have had a stronger aroma and a better head however.

Cerveja excelente. Coloração escura com colarinho bege. Aroma adocicado. Alcool presente e bem inserido. Gosto de frutas escuras secas oresente e persistente. Retrogosto levemente alcoólico e adocicado

33 cl bottle from Systembolaget. Dark, dark amber with a medium offwhite head. Aroma of belgian yeast, caramel, dried fruits and alcohol. Taste reflects the aroma, but here I feel the spices and it give me a perfume-like feeling. Medium bodied. Low bitterness. And medium carbonation.

2015 Edition.
ABV: 10%
Serving temperature 13C (55F) - A little bit to cold, I think.

Dark mahogny, brown/red beer with a tiny beige-brown head. No lacing stays on the glass.

Nose: Nuts, roasted malt, coffee, brownie, caramel malt, prune, raisin, cola and candied sugar.
The nose grows as the beer heats up.
Taste: Sweet caramel, licorice, espresso, roasted malt, maple syrup, raisin, orange, brown sugar and molasses.
Mouth: Full body. Complex texture. Medium carbonation with tiny bubbles. Sweet ending with a light, dry tone.

Oh! This is so good!

I’m looking forward to cellar this and try a bottle in a few years from now :)

There are beer and wonders. The first time I tried pannepot, years ago I discovered that there was life beyond the Trappist. Pannepot The only problem is that there are issues that are not wonderful, just wonderful!
