In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Last of the Pannepot family tree I’ve tried and it wasn’t a disappointment. Aroma of light smoked malt with a dab of peat and black currant. Raisins and a great dose of Belgian floral yeast underlying everything. Pours black with great head and lacing. Finish is smokey and sweet with amazing balance. Really digging this one. Bottle.

Vintage 2011 - Pours a dark brown with a light brown 1/4 in fizzy head. Sweet of banana esters and bready yeast. Malty backbone and a slight hint of Belgian spiciness. The 10% abv. was definitely hidden in this tasty Belgian quad.

33cl bottle@home. Head: shrinking beige foam. Colour: hazy ruby brown. Aroma: spices, dried prunes. Taste: medium bitter-sweet body. Palate: dry, bitter-sweet finish, lively CO2. Overall: ok, probably too fresh. Needs to age more..

2010 bottle brought back from The Bottle Shop in Bruges. Pours a very dark rich opaque brown, small amount of tan head. Smells great. Lots of chocolate, malts, a little cinnamon. Now the taste; some booze, raisins, bread finishes with a little bitterness that turns into coffee. Very creamy mouthfeel. Very nice beer.
