COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

courtesy of BuckeyeSammy: pours blackish brown, milk chocolate head. great lacing. oak, bourbon, grapes, musty prunes on the nose. sweet bourbon notes, woody, roasted malts, dark fruits. this is sweet like dessert with a bit of heat of booze materializing as the beer warms. a mouthful of joy

One of my favourites. I always keep a batch in reserve. Complex, chocolate, black, brown foam, cloudy, full body, creamy, average carbonation, vanilla, coffee,

Fra fat på Brasserie Erasmus i Brugge 4 Mai 11. Svart. Høyt luftig skum med litt farge. Skummet fester seg litt til glasset. Behagelig aroma med lakris i forgrunnen. Smaken avrundet med en syrlig bitter smak med innslag av mørk frukt & kaffe. Varer lenge. Et flott øl - men litt uvariert.

2010 bottle pours a dark brown, basically black with a foamy tan cover that lingers for quite a while. Aroma is loads of dark fruit, plum, fig, some spicy esters, iron, dark candy sugar. Taste is again heavy on the dark fruit, caramel, cocoa, toffee, a bit of spicy ester, high carbonation that actually doesn’t work as well as I want it to. Overall, this is an excellent beer, but there are a few little details that keep it from being stellar.

Bottle. I have to tell a story behind this. I found this in Columbia, and was surprised the local there had it. I had been waiting to try this beer, so when I saw it at the local liquor store I picked it up. Well the dumb little girl at the story couldnt get it to ring up so she gave it to me for free. What a steal this was. Poured a dark brown, reddish color with a nice two finger tannish head. Aroma was molasses, dark fruits, candies and malts. Flavor was fig, plums, raisains, and brown sugar. Longer finsih. Very good beer, and to think my first one was on the house, made it 100 times better.

I think this is my favourite ever beer. Aroma is packed with liquorice & toffee, heavy sweetness, XXL body smooth coating thin and lasting texture (proper geeking out on this sorry) really bubbly, not fizzy, finish is long and exceptionally satisfied. Must try before you die
