Deep, rich, salty aroma of burnt sugar and smoked meat. Mahogany with a gentle head of fine bubbles. The taste is superb - so many flavours. Brown sugar, deep malt, **** it, it’s too complex to describe. Let’s put it this way: why the hell are you reading my rate rather than finding a bottle and drinking it yourself? The sublime palate is the final, golden touch. Yes, yes, yes! FatPhil (3467), Espoo, Finland

Black, tan head. Sweet burnt malty bitter aroma, some marzipan too. Soft on the tongue. A bit alcoholic, though not punching at its full 10% by any means. Accompanying the burntness is some caramel and some bitter hints too. Finish is fairly burnt, but also soft. DUNGA (10), Belgium

Great looking bottle, great beer, deserves to be a trappist... Second only to 2005 Struise Pannepot and Westvleteren 12 IMO... gueuzeisgod (109), Graham, North Carolina, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 11, 2008 OK- this beer is in the 100th percentile, so I have high expectations. 2006 bottle. A good hiss when popping the cap. Rich chesnut brown, not many yeast particulates. A slightly sour nose ala Rodenbach Grand Cru. Old fruit skins. Head collapses leaving only a wisp of lace. First taste is roasty black licorice followed by nice mild acidity backed up by malt sweetness but tails off very dry. Let it warm up a bit. Slightly brandyish. A delicious fireside sipper. Will revisit this one I’m sure. waolsen (1222), Littleton, Colorado, USA

Dark brown beer with creamy head. Aroma spice, sweet, dark chocolate.
Taste complex; spice, brown sugar, liquorice, roasted malts, well balanced warm alcohol feeling. Full bodied.
One of the best beers on earth!

It smells of light roast malt and spice. Malt, spice, dark fruit, and yeast comprise the thoroughly enjoyable flavor. It’s lively on the palate and finishes with pleasant alcohol warmth. Excellent. larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden
