weaselkenievil (738), Cheshire, England Dec 27, 2007 Wow.Smell is awesome. Far too complex for my amazingly poor sense of smell to analyse properly. Sweetness, candyfloss, reminds of the good old days of substance abuse sniffing this. Hoi sin sauce. Chocolate malt smell too. I could go on all day about flavours and smells I think might be in here. Very complex, very tasty. This highlights the problem with rating beer for me. This was a shared bottle with our chops, I want another now. And I can’t. Oh yes, lovely beer. nahthan (129), Oakland, California, USA Dec 25, 2007 33cl bottle. Gift from Aaron @ the Trappist. 2006 vintage. Thanks to Nixter for sharing. We left it in the sun all day yesterday, put it in a brown paper bag this morning, pried the cap off with a cigarette lighter and passed the bottle back and forth while riding BART down to San Leandro.. Just kidding. Cracked @ 55F on the morning of 12/25/2007. No glass recommendation on the label, so I used a small wine glass. Opaque pour with small, thin head. You have to pour this one aggressively if you want big head retention, but that’s not really necessary. A fountain of complexity. First few sips give dried fruit, raisins, prunes, and especially plum. Next few sips chocolate starts to appear in the finish. Get even deeper in and you can start tasting the noble hops in the middle of your palate (Hallertau MF/Mt. Hood?). Big body but not too dry, not too sweet. Very smooth finish, the alcohol is not hot or harsh in any way, it contributes significantly to the mouthfeel. This beer is awesome. Many compare this to Westvletern 12, someday I will do a side by side to decide for myself. Try some and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. franksnbeans (265), Columbus, Maryland, USA Dec 23, 2007 Pours an almost black plum color with 2 fingers of dark creamy head that dies slowly to a collar and leaves a dissapating sheet of lace with every sip. Smells of plum, fig, vanilla, spice and slight clove. Awesome nose. Taste is very complex and reminds me of a Westy 12. Lots of fruit, fig, pear, a little vanilla and a smooth finish. Chewy in the mouth with the tickle from carbonation. Awesome drinkability. Blindfold me and let me taste this and I would guess its a trappist delight.

Dark reddish brown color with decent head. Fruit and chocolate hints in the smell. Flavor is sweet and chocolate like - hints of raisins int here too. Very heavy and thick on the palate. Nice and enjoyable. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA Dec 19, 2007 Updated: Apr 21, 200806 bottle thanks to pepsican. I suppose I should preface this by saying that I am not a huge Belgian Strong fan, but this is a good beer. Pours a deep brown color with a nice beige head that left good lacing. Also present were the nice, streaming "belgian" bubbles. Yeasty aroma with fruity esters, mostly banana and orange. Tart, fruity entry moves into a spicey yeast middle with even more fruit flavors, and finishes slightly tart with a hint of alcohol. The yeast creates a crisp and lively palate. Definitely a good beer, thanks again pepsi. Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Dec 15, 2007 Pours totally opaque with a luscious head. Roasty aroma, aromatic and perfumy too. Sublime mouthfeel and a body that just washes all over you. A delightful blend of flavors, rich pure and complex without being overwhelming or colorful. The kind of beer you could drink regularly (g-d willing) but also works as a treat. This beer is superlative! And it rocks! thooper41 (384), Oregon, USA Dec 13, 2007 Updated: Dec 30, 200733cl bottle llooks like a coke poured into a glass with an added head to it. aroma is slightly sweet and has this smell to it that just makes me want to take another wiff. flavor has a ton of mixed flavors to it spices little sweetness no hop flavor but still bitter very well balanced not to sweet and not to bitter and goes down smooth. i think i have a new best beer. Encorpadíssima, me lembrou bastante a Westvleteren 8. O chocolate assume à frente, liderando uma ampla gama de doces sensações que vão das nozes às cerejas, da canela ao açúcar-mascavo, tudo soberbamente equilibrado.
