A nice aroma of spice, sugar, liqurice and dark fruits. A nice flavor of spice, liqurice, tobacco, dark fruits and sugar. asteele8 (270), Mukilteo, Washington, USA Oct 24, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark black with a nice thick light brown head on top. Aroma is raisins, figs, dark fruits, cherries, caramel, spices, and nuts. This beer has a wonderful dark nose. Flavor is very complex with different flavors hitting the tongue. Grapes and raisins are initially tasted, hints of nuts are followed as well as spices. The beer finishes with a nice sweetness but is not overbearing at all. On the palate this beer feels very drinkable considering the complexity as well as the alcohol content. No hint of the 10% is felt in the flavor. This beer is absolutely amazing! Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA Oct 23, 2007 Goodness this beer is fantasic. I had the pannepot with the line through the o last nigth and enjoyed it thouroughly and though....how much better can it get by dropping a line through an o? Much better. Nose was of caramel and burnt caramel with raisins and figs thrown in for good measure and spices, but not like pumpkin beer spices (good in their own right) chocolate malts.. No hint of alcohol. Flavor wise this beer reminded me of a great belgian mixed with a good barleywine mixed with a solid imperial stout. Chocolate cake mixed with alcohol mixed with forementioned spices mixed with caramel drizzle. Wow, hold on as I’m drinking this beer the rating is moving up. Serioulsy amazing. Oh and the pour was dark brown almost black when completely in the glass with a fluffy beige head that laced extremely well and was a muse to look at. hiddenvariable (194), pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 22, 2007 Updated: Nov 25, 2007pours an opaque black that has a reddish tint at the edges, with a huge light brown head that quickly falls to a thin coating and leaves a bit of lacing. smells of nuts and spices and blackberry and raisins, with some dark malts coming through, and the tiniest hint of alcohol. taste is quite vinous, with cherries and grapes coming out over a dark and nutty malt, and a bit of yeast toward the end. fairly sweet on the finish but with enough bitterness to keep it from being cloying. medium heavy body and a good carbonation. the third beer that made me say "wow!" out loud when i tasted it.
rerate: the first few sips of this beer are amazing, but it’s really sweet and starts to become cloying by the end. guzzler67 (1272), Hanover, Maryland, USA Oct 22, 2007 Dark mahogany appearance with a large, dense, tan head and loads of lacing. Aroma is full of spicy goodness and multiple layers of dark, ripe fruit, rum and molassas. The taste marries the fruity, spicy flavors with lush, sweet chocolate/caramel malts. Creamy, full bodied mouthfeel; rich and smooth on the palate. Finishes like a fine dessert wine. (2006 vintage from State Line) BelgiskOlklub (397), Viby J, Denmark Oct 19, 2007 Updated: Oct 31, 200733 cl. bottle Pannepot 2006. Plum, raisins, caramel, dark chocolate and mild coffee. Small light-brown head that’s mostly diminishing. Dark brown body. The initial flavour is moderate sweet and light bitter. The long finish is dominated by moderate sweetness, spices and alcohol. A very good beer. chimay67 (30), hunt sta, New York, USA Oct 18, 2007 This beer is like the second coming of Mickey Mantle. It is brewed with such devotion, such care. Thes guys are a hoot, and you just want to see them do well because they also happen to be the one of the most exciting breweries in Belgium right now. Had this one at Spuyten Duivel in Brooklyn and also at the ZBF earler this year. It is huge, fruity and makes your taste buds want to get up and dance. Share this one with someone you care for, or at least want to get a raise from. Worth any cost to obtain. I am holding on to the one I have in the cellar for dear life.
