DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Oct 16, 2007 2006 bottle. This opaque, brown/black pour with mahogany highlights and a creamy tan head is simply spectacular looking. The head is almost indestructible, and leaves a thick, ropy lace. Complex aroma of dark fruit, roasted nuts, leather, spice and brown sugar. Full body, softly carbonated, rish and smooth. Excellent balance with sweet malt flavors leading into a some tangy bitterness and a softly dry finish. An absolutely phenomenal beer. jonnabrix (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 15, 2007 This certainly deserves the ratings. Pours a deep brown color, with a tan head. Aroma is of sweet, dark raisin/plum fruits and spice. Flavor followed suit, with a thick, lively mouthfeel and long finish. Warms the stomach and is thoroughly enjoyable. cbrixius (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 14, 2007 Bottle from my brother in law. Poured a cloudy brown with a rocky, brown foam head. Sweet, earthy, and raisiny on the nose. The flavor had a very heavy sweetness, Typical hop profile for a belgian strong ale. The body was full and thick. Noticeably fizzy. Overall, a most excellent brew. mhelgason (495), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Oct 13, 2007 bottle. fizzy light brown head that dissapated in second to just a small ring around glass. brown body. aromas of chocolate, ripe fruit, licorice, caramel, light spicyness, some vinousness as well. flavor has a distinct tartness that mellows into sweetness in end. extra long duration on finish. damn good belgian strong. Sickboy282 (1098), San Diego, California, USA Oct 10, 2007 Updated: Dec 3, 2008Wow.... I can’t believe I haven’t rated this one yet. Pours a deep brown hue with an amber hue. The head is huge, thick and lasting with wonderful lacing. Aromas of cola, raisins, spices and port. Mouth feel is medium to full bodied with a quick drying finish. Flavors of spice, raisins, and hints of licorice, cherries and again that cola flavor. While it is warming in the belly, the alcohol isn’t as apparent in the mouth. MMMMMM..... very nice. KimJohansen (6678), Copenhagen V, Denmark Oct 9, 2007 Pours red/brown with a nice beige head. Aroma is filled with toffee, raisins and overriped fruits. Full bodied, sweet and very complex flavor. Filled with spices malt and come out rather vinous. A classic! sheatripper (863), Brooklyn, New York, USA Oct 8, 2007 33 cl. bottle. Stout-like brown with a reddish tint and a frothy beige head. Aroma of bakers’ chocolate, wood, leather, spice, raisins, and maybe a trace of port or sherry. Fine bittersweet chocolate flavors interlaced with notes of tangy dried fruit (raisin/dried cherry) and an easygoing pepper/spice counterpart. Full bodied with fine carbonation. It’s one of those great Belgian beers where all the flavors just work together perfectly and give you that strange happy feeling. Lots of love is coming out of my glass. bikesandbeers (468), Los Angeles, California, USA Oct 7, 2007 I lived in amsterdam for a year, and none of the bottle shops ever had this, and i never came across a bottle in belgium (although I was distracted with other things. And in Holiday Wine Cellars, Escondido, CA, I see a whole fing shelf of them. 33cl bottle 2006 vintage.
