KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA Sep 26, 2007 Impressive. Poured dark brown with a bit of drizzle dripping out at the end of the bottle. I was not impressed with the aroma but the taste was amazing. The beer seems to evolve as you move it around in your mouth and slowly let it roll down. Very nice. KingpinIPA (842), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Sep 26, 2007 Dark color. Smell of malt, brown sugar, copper, bread, hops, chocolate, light smoke, dark fruit, cinnamon, pepper, leather and ginger. Tastes the same but with alcohol and walnuts. What a great beer. Thanks to Beerlando and Miketd for the great bottles! RollinHard (748), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Sep 25, 2007 pours dark brown with a good sized yellowy beige head. Aroma of licorice, dark chocolate covered raspberries and cherries, some tea, ginger, pinches of peppermint. Wonderful aroma, and rather mellow too. Chocolate, nutty, and gingerbread flavor, followed by licorice, raspberries, spicy yeast notes (can’t really decipher that), and finishes with a warming yeasty flavor. Some deep dark fruit tastes and more licorice on the finish also. Aftertaste evolves unexpectedly into a real nutty earthy hop flavor followed by cappuccino. Awesome. I can taste this as I breathe. A little hot, but otherwise this is quite superb. miketd (679), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Sep 23, 2007 Pours very dark mahogany with a big beige head. Smells of fruit and wine with alcohol in there as well. I’m also picking up some caramel or toffee notes.
Flavor is slightly more bitter than expected and highly carbonated. Tastes sweet with a bunch of alcohol , but very nice. Full bodied with a slick and creamy feel. AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 22, 2007 Updated: Apr 13, 2008Poured a very dark brown with a nice frothy head. You could smell this elixir on the pour. Dark fruits, and belgian yeast dominate. The taste is even better than the nose. This is a wonderful beer. More dark fruits. I notice more than what was in the nose, Blackberry, plum, grape. There is a lot going on in the taste. Nice and complex. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. I could drink this all day long. Pastor (509), Maine, USA Sep 20, 2007 bottle poured dark, tan beige head . fruity alcohol aroma ,smooth and creamy on the palate. tastes grape raisins, plum, sweet. Finishes a little warm most likely the alchohol dankman38 (228), Somewhere in, Ohio, USA Sep 19, 2007 Updated: Dec 6, 2007Deep brown color with a tan/brown head, the flavor is quite spicy and a wee bit sweet (soy with sugar, mollasses and cloves), finishes strong and the body isn’t too heavy but far from light. Good on a cold day, or a hot day with air conditioning; this really is a world class beer! tjthresh (1735), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Sep 18, 2007 11.2 ounce bottle provided by thiesti
Served in a Delirium Tremens tulip. Pours a dark opaque brown with a initially large tan head. The head fades to just a little layer, but it lasts.
The aroma has bits of grape, soy sauce, cherry, wood, fruit pits, caramel malts, yeast phenols, and herbs. I picked up a sugary wine-ish note when warmed it bit more.
The initial flavor I pick up is clove. Coco, toffee, pepper, and cooked sugars with a touch of alcohol. Slight bitterness in the finish.
Medium body, with a silky texture and a nice touch of carbonation.
This beer is very appropriate for a day when you are home with a sick child! Thanks Tim!
