aubreya (676), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 12, 2007 Pour: deep reddish purple. Head: thick, foamy, creamy, light beige. Aroma: sweet, tart, dark fruit, alcohol. Flavor: dark fruit, alcohol, tart/sweet. Palate: lively, refreshing and clean. Finish: warm and sweet. emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Sep 12, 2007 Pours a deep brown with dark ruby hues. The head is thick, creamy, beige. Wonderful nose. Sweet, spicy, candied fruit, raisins, molasses, dry vinous character. Sweet on the tongue, raisins, dark sugar, massive alcohol punch, Belgian yeast, molasses, amazing taste. Extremely complex palate. Very full and lively, wonderfully satisfying carbonation. Finishes warm and lively. jzzbassman (838), New Albany, Mississippi, USA Sep 11, 2007 Rated "blind" back to back with Pannepøt. This was the second and much more complex. In a Gulden Draak glass, it took forever to pour, wiht a large bubbled tan head. Fruity and spicy aroma, with a tinge of leather and molasses. Chocolate malty front, with hints of macadamia and fig. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Sep 9, 2007 Thanks Tim! Trappist glass. Dark brown with red tints and a two fingered khaki head. Aroma is malty, with bananas, spice (something from chinese 5 spice), dark fruits, and a mild roastiness. Taste, initially, is dark fruit, rich maltiness, spice, raisins & prunes, cinnamon? clove? vanilla and a touch of alcohol followed by a strong clovey flavor, more dark fruits, some chocolate, and more of everything. Very complex. Seems strongly spiced, but not over the top. Incredible complexity of flavor. Great mouthfeel. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Sep 9, 2007 Updated: Sep 5, 2009Deep brown ... Deep fruity malts ... light touch of meatyness in nose ... Very simelar malt fruit richness to the Reserva ... possibly a touch rougher but very well balanced .. sft fruits and a toch fruiter than reserva I found this and the Reserva to be very slighly different making each distict but could not seperte them as one better than the other. These two beers were my top choice in an eveing that included Narke Kaggen, Westvltern 12 and Nogne Dark Horizon so truly a stunning beer. Id also like to thank Carlo for the bottle. footbalm (1218), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Sep 8, 2007 Had this many times but I think the first bottle came from Degarth. Pours cloudy and looks like it is full of soogy corn flake crumbs..yummy. Nose is, ahhh let me see, lots of those wonderful aromas from the yeast strains that the belgians seem to come up with. Notes of raisins, bananas, some funk-a-rific spice that you wouldn’t know how to cook with if you had it in your spice rack. A true masterpiece compared to so many lousy BSA’s that somehow make it to the store shelf. TrevorFloyd (309), Connecticut, USA Sep 7, 2007 Careful when you open - mine erupted like a geyser, and my counter top may have gotten more than I did. First thing I notice is the palate - incredibly soft. The flavors are great, dark and complex but not overbearing. Lots of chocolate, some mild spice, maybe some molasses and fruit that quickly fades. Interesting and tasty, but a but pricey. Jan Primus (160), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Sep 5, 2007 This might be a great beer but for me it was a very strange brew. It was sweet and spicy, but seemed unbalanced...maybe it was too young since many of the big Belgians need some age. Perhaps I was upset at this beer for exploding when openned and making my hands sticky...I will have to re-visit this one sometime down the road.
