COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Year 2010. Been looking for this, and it just turned up in a bottle shop. Lovely aroma of fruit, spices, molasses, slight alcohol. The appearance is deep brown/black, light tan head, like a stout. The flavor is fruity, spicy (coriander, nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.), molasses. The finsh is a booze warming, and light spicy hops, and spices. MEdium to medium/thick in body. Excellent.

On Tap at the hulmeville .... Clear deep amber brown pour thin off white beige head ..... aroma is of fruity yeast and dark fruits not very strong but there .... taste was very smooth and creamy and of dark fruits and a fruity yeast .... slight soft bitterness and warming abv in the finish ... better than the riserva version (had that in a bottle though) mouthfeels amazing with this brew smooth and great flavor

Botlle. Pours out brown with a rusty coloured, head that disipates quickl but leaves a little ring. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, vanilla and kandi sugar. Flavour is full, bit of sweetness. Great balance and easy drinkable. Chocolate gives it a bittersweet overall taste and the coffee adds roastiness. Really good beer.

On tap at TJ’s. Pours dark copper with moderate foam head. Aroma of caramel, toast, earth, soy sauce, vegetables. Fairly sweet. Smooth, medium bodied. It’s an expertly crafted beer, but I’m just ho-hum on the flavor.

Appearance: Medium white head, quite persistant. Color is copper black, with ruby red reflections. Aroma: Intense. Elegant. Chocolate, caramel, notes of raisins and notes of spices in the end. Taste: Good body, almost velevety. Well balanced. Liquorice, a hint of coffee, then a light roast bitterness. Then caramel notes and a spicy kick, partly given by a good, lively carbonation. Long, lightly bitter finish. Good.

11.2oz bottle. Pours dark ruby red with a pillowy off-white head. Aroma and taste of sweet dark fruits (plums, dates, & black cherries) with a touch of grape bubblegum. Delicate, smooth mouthfeel with moderate alcohol burn and a slight bitter malt aftertaste. Fantastic.

Opaque brown with lots of chocolate-colored sediment, some of it is floating on top of the tan-to-light-brown head, which is thick, but fizzy and will soon fade completely. The aroma hits me in the face as I pour, wow, it’s been a while since a beer struck me like that from 18" away! Aroma is that tart, fresh bakers yeast found in the best trappists (like st bernardus trippel or corsendonk blond in particular). burnt spiced bread crust, light pine and coffee, yes! coffee. cocoa. Now for a taste. Medium bodied with quite a bit of carbonation, fine little pricks on the palate, not creamy, but not the big prickly feeling I sometimes get, and... it’s tastes like I would expect based on the aroma: sweet malt with a rather spicy raisin bread and crust. Nice banana alcohol burn, but after 5 seconds I exhale and I get those spices: I actually don’t have the vocabulary for what I’m tasting in that. Is it wood, bark? combined with liquorice? something like that perhaps. More than likely it’s a spice that I simply am not used to identifying in beer, or just a new and very unique Belgian yeast strain, but wow, that aftertaste is the highlight of the beer, it lingers around for a full minute and you’re still left wondering. Old, yummy smelling mahogany. As it warms I get more and more tart refreshing yeast and alcohol burn. The lovely malt sweetness is more apparent in the aroma. I actually feel bad giving this beer a rating. On a first edit I actually had "wow" written five times in this review! I’m not sure if it deserves that necessarily, but there are many striking things about this. My new favorite beer!
