COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

33 cl bottle @ home, 2010 edition. Not the first time I’m having this by far, but... Murky dark brown color. Beige head with a thin layer retention. Aroma’s: raisin, light port, sweet, dried fruit. Retronasal: sweet, fruit, toffee, dark malts, dark sugar. Flavor is moderate to full sweet, with some fruity sourness. Medium to full bodied. Long finish with light bitterness.

Very complex beer Aroma of raisins, spices, cloves, caramel, bread, a little bit of solvent. Rather sweet, but not cloying. Leaves nice, sweet bready-chocolatey aftertaste. Almost flat

Dark red brown, mahagoni with almost no head. Aroma is syrup, brown sugar, many nuts, toffee, clove, really complex. Spicy taste, sweet and boozy. Oily mouthfeel almost too heavy. Overall great. I also have an 11 year old version here: It is undrinkably sweet. With additional aroma of tires. Has a honey like mouthfeel due to the missing carbonation. Recent version is better.

Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer is hazy dark brown to black colored and has a creamy head, with nice carbonation. The aroma is very malty and soft spicy with also notes of dried fruits and caramel and some cacao is noticable. The taste is sweet with hints of caramel, dried fruits and cane sugar and changes into a light bitterness with notes of spices, refreshing hops and coffee. The finish is light bitter and long and leaves a nice warming alcohol note. Wow, this is just excellent.

Pours a dark cherry brown pour with an ephemeral beige head. Nose is fruity and floral with subtle hints of cocoa and mocha . Taste is sweet with chocolate and dark fruits. Finish is sweet and ends on the same sweet dark fruity notes. Very drinkable and delicious, very well balanced ! Quaff Score 8 / 10

Dark brown colour. Thin white head which disappears quite quickly. Dark fruits, hints of berries, hints of coffee, hints of barley, notes of caramel in the aroma. Rich! Hints of dark fruits, hints of red wine, hints of chocolate, hints of coffee, nice crispiness in the middle. Slightly sour, liqeury, mild finish. Extremely well balanced. Very enjoyable beer. Would not say it is heavy bodied. A masterpiece.

Bottle, 330ml. A dark beer with minimal brown head. Aroma is of dried fruits, alcohol, wood and nuts. Taste is sweet with a strong dried fruit character. Medium bodied, smooth and with faint carbonation. Rich and complex character, perfectly balanced, full of true Belgiam character.
