COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Bottle. Brown color with a large frothy to creamy excellent lacing fully lasting light brown head. Aroma is moderate malty, spices, coffee, moderate to heavy yeasty, dry fruit, sugar. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with very good balance, harmonious, duration is average to long. Body is full, texture is creamy, carbonation is lively, finish feel is light alcoholic. 33 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with a huge brown head. Cane sugar sweet and dry fruit aroma, yeast notes providing some spice notes too. Thick mouthfeel. Liqourice, spicy, dried fruit, sweet sugarish flavour in a lovely heavy blend with clear alcohol notes. Nice bitterness giving the beer a solid sharpness throughout and fresh fruityness into the sweet and bitter finish. Warming alcohol feel, not burning in anyway, rather well hidden. Very nice.

(Bottle 33 cl) Vintage 2004. Pours a clear, warm amber golden with a dense, beige head leaving some lacework. Very complex, vinous aroma with notes of raisins in rum. Sweet and full body with flavours of dried fruit, vanilla and brown sugar - and again a touch of rum. Not overly sweet and the alcohol is surprisingly well hidden in spite of the total lack of bitterness. The mouthfeel is extremely smooth and soft. 140307

Bottled. Cloudy red-brown colour with a huge beige head. Acidic aroma with lots of dried fruit, wood, spices, tobacco and chocolate. Very complex sweet flavour, with lots of dried fruits, tobacco and chocolate. Reminds me a bit of Rochefort 10, but this one is sweeter and much better. Thanks Jeppe for getting this beer to Denmark and thanks lachesis for brewing this great beer. Definately one of my favorite beers.

Bottled. Dark brown opaque colour, huge foamy/creamy brownhead. Very complex aroma, malts, almond, nuts, alcohol, sweet fruit and caramel. Flavour of almond, nuts, sweet alcohol, raisins, plum and caramel. Aftertaste is plummy with strong sweetness. Absolutely lovely palate. Wonderful brew, which excellently hides it’s ABV. Smooth and soft yet very complex! Thanks omhper!

Bottled. Mahogany colour, rich head. Aroma of red berries. Sweet, lightly roasty and rather vinous. Richly malty with velvetty soft mouthfeel. Powerful, yet balanced. A full bodied, intensely aromatic world class beer.

2005 Vintage at Kulminator. Opaque black beer. Lovely fruity nose with a hint of sour. Softish palate. Sweet and fruity - some blackcurrant and a whisper of pear. Milk chocolate blends with the fruit perfectly.

2004 Vintage at Kulminator.
Clear brown beer. Light dry palate. Fruity but also dusty. A poor sibling to the 2005 - decent but less fruity and the chocolate is almost absent.

2009 Vintage at Gainsbar, Kortrijk.
Sweet spicy malt with a little pear and a trace of bubblegum, think this one could really mature well.

2006 Vintage
Cloudy dark brown beer, frothy tan head. Yeasty marmite nose. Semi crisp, semi dry palate. Starts with marmite and then coca cola. Touch of chocolate before a little spice. Finishes dry with a little aniseed. Nice complex beer, just a bit too much marmite. 3.5

The color is a very dark amber, clean, with generous and creamy head. The aroma shows some oxidization, more than the flavor though; it’s malty, sweet; the bitterness is all gone. Still good, but probably at its limit.

2009-05-27, vintage 2005, 4 years old, 8-5-8-4-17=42
Dark color, almost black; the head, initially medium sized, reduces ot a thin but persistent layer. Good aroma, very mature, with some caramel and chocolate. It has a good body, with caramel and malt flavor, medium sweet, liquor-like, with tobacco leaves; mature, but also a bit fruity, harmonious and complex at the same time. The alcohol feeling is more evident. It has almost no bitterness. Very interesting, but I think it may be even more in 5 or 6 years.

Cloudy brown color. Very nice aroma, some Madeira, Porto wine. Sweet, malty, round, complete, almost fruity. Great!

I found this and the Reserva to be very slighly different making each distict but could not seperte them as one better than the other. These two beers were my top choice in an eveing that included Narke Kaggen, Westvltern 12 and Nogne Dark Horizon so truly a stunning beer. Id also like to thank Carlo for the bottle.
