In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

(330ml bottle, RBSG05) Big tan head topped by opaque brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, yeast, raisin, cocoa. Taste is sweet, milk chocolate, light anise. Creamy full body that renders the alcohol virtually invisible.

2006 Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured reddish/brown color with large light brown head that lasted with good lacing. Very complex dark fruit, citrus, caramel and alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture. Full complex sweet flavor with solid fruity sweet finish and a small bite of alcohol. Very good standout brew.

2006 bottle tasted July 2007. Very dark red-brown with a big, pillowy light brown head. Complex aroma filled with orange, cherry, figs, bubblegum, anise, nutmeg, cinnamon. Sweet, fruity flavour with more than a hint of port, and some licorice and anise in the finish. It’s soft and velvet on the tongue, but the carbonation stings a little. Long lasting malty aftertaste finishes this beauty perfectly.

Truly a nice beer. Very dark brown with limited brown head. Aroma is mostly sugary and caramel. It starts with smoky flavours that expands to malty sweetness and a touch of bitterness. Doesn’t feel vinious at any point.

06 edition. 11.2oz bottle-pours a disappearing off white head and cloudy brown color. Aroma is funky, medium malt-toffee/maple sugar, tart fruit. Interesting. Taste is medium malt-toffee/maple sugar, wood, tart fruit, spice/herbal hops. Nice sipping beer, goes down easily. Good effervescence. Kind of a Belgian Strong Brown. Thanks to Wasatch for trade with Joe-jwc215 & me.

"2006" bottle, best bf. apr 2010 aroma: aged beer, raisins, dark fruit. when i opened the bottle, the beer really wanted to get out so some of it spilled to the floor. pours almost clear brown with a sizable nutty-brown head. great taste, a little aged beer over this one, but just a little. dark fruits and spices. alc. not present. aftertaste is super, the fruits vaporiza slowly leaving a roasted note behind. best "aged beer" type i ever tasted. still, i don’t like this type.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2012 Very dark colored, frothy head. 2005 vintage. Complex aroma: plums, pepper, nutmeg, maple syrup. Very sweet, sugary flavor with nutmeg, plums, apple, pear, cinnamon, chocolate and raisin. Lovely long aftertaste of apple dumplings. The alcohol is there, but fairly well hidden. I like this beer, but I prefer more body and less sugary sweetness, but the complexity is there. Perhaps this beer will further improve with cellaring. 2007 vintage, tasted in december 2012. Bottle. Marky dark brown color carmel and porto in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with caramel, red fruit and an upcoming tartness. Complex. Majestically matured.

Bottle poured a hazy reddish brown with a large lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, spice, fruitiness, light choclate and a hint of vanilla. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of carmel, spice, fruitiness and light cocoa with a smooth lingering spiced finish.
