In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Vintage 2011 from Belgian e-shop Very dark color, almost black, very thin head that dissipates. Aroma is light tart, combined with the color it reminds me a bit of oud bruin, dark malts, not much sweetness. Taste is amazing, ballanced, light tart, floral with amazing complexity from the combination spices. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, very drinkable. Amazing brew...

dark brown colour, minimal beige-ish head; complex aroma of plum jam, raisin, green apple, woody and herbal notes, some alcohol, hints of chocolate and yeasts; taste of tons of dried fruits (mainly plum), woody notes again, some cocoa, roasted sugar, minimal alcoholic spiciness and some herbal liqueur; a bit lower carbontion than the ideal one, but otherwise an excellent Belgian Strong Ale

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2015 2013 bottle. Writing this as I drink it. The beer is black in colour and it has a small brown head with good retention. Aroma is dark chocolate, spices, milk, vanilla, nuts, brown sugar and alcohol. The taste is spicy and sweet at first, then becomes spicy-bitter. A lingering spicy aftertaste remains, that leaves one’s mouth longing for more. The alcohol is warming, but no direct alcohol taste is noticeable. Wonderful, full, smooth body. This is one of the best beers I’ve had so far, if not the best one. It outperforms the Belgian trappist ales that enjoy an oh-so-high reputation, but most of the time disappoint me, by far.

Pannepot 2010 Guiness black Spices (black pepper, smoke) caramel, coffee, hint of alcohol. Full bodied, velvety like a strong wine. In the palate sweet dominates, but finishes with a espresso-like (coffee) bitterness, Truly unique.
