COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

Aroma: estery, synthetic banana, alcohol, interesting malt, liquorice (lovely).
Flavour: yum, powerful sourish-sweet & salty banana, liquorice & dark malt. Really splendid. Coffee. Dried strawberry. Some hops lurk in the background.
Appearance: crimson (towards black) with very fine light yellowish-brown-tinted head - creamy.
Palate: yeasty, fizzy, thick, rustic.

Bottle (2012), bread, coffee, roasty, pitch black. Brown head, quickly disappearing. Reminds me of Rochefort, equally great!

2011 Vintage. Pours a dark brown. Age has treated this one well, light oxidation yields the typical rich sherry-like flavors as well as a velvety texture. The subtlety of the spices integrate perfectly with a sturdy and assertive caramel/toffee like malt backbone, yielding flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, plum, fig, and raisin. Absolutely a must try, and based on this bottle, I would highly suggest trying one fresh and aging another.

Prachtig bier om te zien. Ruikt, chocolade, koffie, caramel. Smaakt fris zoet met een goede brandende nasmaak.

Fantastic rich and delicate aroma; sweet and complex; caramel, dark fruit, touch of alcohol, some spices, a bit of roasty/coffee. Tastes about the same, very smooth and delicious.

Draught. Dark brown to black. Smallish head. Dark fruits, figs and half malts and candy sugars. Good but not quite as amazing as I’d hoped

Bottle (2011). Pours a deep red - almost black color, with a medium sized brown head. Aroma of malts, spices, chocolate, sugar and yeast. NICE! Flavours of sweet roasted malts, dark fruits, caramel, sugar, spices...and oak? Sweet but not too much - "just right" in fact. Body is on the heavier side of medium and it has a nice creamy feel to it. Malty and fruity aftertaste. Really good and a nice surprise. Definitely one I’ll have again.
