Aroma is dark malts, caramel, dark fruits, sugarcane and cough syrup. Flavour is sweet with some roasted notes and a full body. Very nice, bottle was a bit too cold so it took a while before the aroma appeared.

Actually preferred this to the Reserva version. Bottle at Pizza Paradiso in Dupont Circle. Slightly floral on front end with a fairly boozy finish.

(2011) Pours dark and opaque with a medium tan head. Aroma is heavy sweet malts, prunes, and maybe a little clove - there’s also a little alcohol in the background. Taste is really unique. Initially you get a heavy malt flavor then, almost immediately, an alcohol sweetness dominates. Afterwards, a thick, oily, earthy maltiness envelopes the tastebuds for a great finish. Hard to pinpoint individual flavors probably because of the age. Would like to compare with a fresh one.

2011 Bottle. Pours a murky dark brown with coarse, light brown head. Settles in minutes with no lacing. Aroma is fruity, plum, stone fruit, mild alcohol. Flavor is fruity, plum, fig, dark stone fruit, with a malty, toffee, and mild alcohol finish. The alcohol is well masked as expected, beer is very well balanced. Soft carbonation with a medium body and smooth texture. Dark, fruity, rich, a tasty brew.

Pours inky black with mocha head. Aromas of chocolate, raisins, and roasted malt. Flavors match aromas with a rich full mouthfeel. A well crafted complex beer demanding contemplation.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 BMMillsy (681) - Florida, USA - MAY 5, 2013
Pours deep dark brown with a dark kahki head. Aroma is spices, pungent yeast, chocolate roasted malt. Flavor is a big dark fruit bomb. Sweet figs, chocolate, cherry, hints of spices, yeast funk. Silky smooth texture goes along with the huge complex flavor. Relatively heavy carbonation. Hints of alcohol warmth. Great beer.

Bottle. 2010 vintage. Very dark ruby beer with touches of a residual head. Aroma of dark treacle and dark fruits. The taste is very complex. Dark fruits, licorice, dark treacle, sweet and rich. Oily and a little sticky on the palate. Slight carbonation. An outstanding beer, one of my favourites.
