Commercial Description:
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

33 cl bottle via trade with The Eepiest, thanks Chris. 2006 Vintage. Probably should age this one longer but I’m too interested in drinking it now and seeting what the fuss is all about. I let it warm on the counter out of the fridge for a half an hour, to let it break free of its bonds as belgian sometimes need some warmth. Pours darker than I expected. Pours opaque ruby brown with a 1 finger tan head. The Aroma is Big and Complex with some guezey qualities, I smell funk, fruit, and a whole lot of other stuff. The taste is sweet and bold with some of the spices mentioend on the label coming through. There is a lot of richness here and too much to say. Its damn good and I almost want to run out and age a bunch but the spices in it are a little off putting.

Vinous nose with notes of raisin, red-grape, and significant malt with a fun musty character behind it. Very grape-like nose in fact. Brown beer by the way, with a frothy head. Flavors were very fig-like and had lots of raisin notes as well. Some solid bitterness was behind it all too. Again, the fig and raisin flavors dominate but there’s also nice red wine character riding along. Overall, its a nice, clean, full bodied malty ale, but I will certainly need to spend some more time with it if im going to be giving it the high scores that others have.

Bottle and wow what a beer!! Holy crap! Pours a dark, dark brown with a tan color head that coats the glass with each sip. Aromas are brown sugar, syrup, dried dark fruit, spice. Thick and creamy the sweetness is just so beautiful. Dried fruits on the tongue, honey, molasses, mmmmmm hell yeah.

33cl bottle. Deep brown pour with beige head. Good god, this is good. Had it a year or so ago and forgot how good. Fig and raisin heavy on the nose, along with brown sugar and lots of spices which are so well-blended that I can’t quite pick out any single one... coriander? cinnamon? Similar on the tongue, with some cocoa and some smoky notes coming out. A little soy and licorice as well. Perfect palate: fizzy and light despite the sweetness and high alcohol.
