COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

2009 bottle from Jim Spahr, who sent a whole bunch of beer back from Belgium. Nice carbonation out of the bottle. Big tan head, slowly dissipated. Beer is brown with garnet highlights. Smells of alcohol; boozy. Great flavor - some caramel, a little chocolate and a hint of roastiness. The barrel-aging seems to work with this one well - I don’t think the wood stole any of the flavor.

When I poured this, I was so excited. It took me a while to find it, and I was emotional. When I saw the color of the pour, I actually got giddy. Super nice dark mahogany color. All in all, very very nice, although I will admit it's not my absolute favorite among those in it's class. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Best flat beer I ever had. Great dried fruit nose after swirling. Very dark Amber with small head that disappeared quickly. Figs, coffee, butterscotch, licorice, raisin, vanilla, plum flavors. Small alcohol warmth and almost no carbonation. Semi sweet finish. Awesome!

Pours a black body with a medium brown head. Complex, strong and slightly sour aroma of dark dried fruits, wood, red wine and tart red berries. The flavour is also strong, with that kind of sourness that red wine barrel ageing gives. But if I understand the label correctly this isn’t barrel aged at all? There are also plenty of sweet, dark dried fruits, clove, anise, caramel and alcohol, with traces of chocolate in the back. Moderate sweet, light sour and moderate bitter taste. Thick and pleasant mouthfeel, soft carbonation. A splendid beer!

Small bottle, 2013 vintage. Shared by suurjuust. thanks! Pours dark brown with tan head. The head doesn’t stay. Aroma is sweet, vinous, dark fruits, spices, alcohol. Flavor is sweet, spices, fruits, and some alcohol. Overall: nice brew, I guess it would get better after some time.
