In the early 1900s, the village of De Panne, close to the French border, was famous for two things -- the ‘Pannepots,’ or fishing boats, that could be seen along the coast, and the unique dark ale enjoyed by the local fishermen. Our Old Fisherman’s Ale is a tribute to these hardy sailors and their rich, flavorful brew. Unfiltered. Unpasteurized. Bottle-conditioned in 33cl and 75cl.

2010 Bottle. A dark brown to black with big tan Head that is lasting. Aroma is dark dried fruits (raisins, dates, prunes) a whiff of sea salt, big oak character, a syrupy sweetness like a dark fruit jam or something. Flavor follows with a fairly full mouthfeel and flavors of fruit, not quite sticky but syrupy certainly. If I poured it over vanilla ice cream I imagine it would be a phenomenal experience. Flavors add spiciness, peppery, but around that chocolate blackberry or plum first noticed in the nose. Belgian yeast and candy sugars come in a dark molasses kind of way. The kind of beer I’d want to drink off the beach in Nantucket on a cooler August night. Always has been one my true beer loves for many years. This beer so dark and delicate is a dessert on its own and maybe tomorrow’s breakfast shall be another.

Birra fantastica.

Bottle at csakajo. Darker brown colour, with a huge brown, longlasting head. Nose of caramel, dried fruits with some malts. Taste is medium bitterness, wih some sourness. Very well balanced beer. Nothing fancy, nothing tricky, just straightup fantastic beer. As it gets warmer, the dried fruity notes gets stronger.

Drank this one fresh and vintage 2006. Both were amazing in their own way and an interesting and never been boring combination of flavours. The style isn’t completly my thing but if i had to choose one, this would be it! Obtained these at Belgiuminabox.com.

Clear, very dark brown with small tan head. Aroma has boozy dried fruit, notes of chocolate and cherries. Lovely boozy, syrupy flavour. Subtle caramel and licorice. Warming and well balanced. I really deserved this one.

Tasted this beer at restaurant Moeder Lambik, De Panne. Very nice combination with a steak roquefort. Very complex flavour. Delicious initial taste dominated by caramel, chocolade herbs and sugar candy. Really really good!

Bottle. Deep dark, light brown head. Aroma of sweet cherry, dark syrup. Taste round sweet, syrup. Vanilla. Some notes of coffee,
